This large aperture, super high image quality telephoto zoom lens provides performance comparable to that of a single focal length lens, with a wide zoom range. This lens is developed as a successor to the EF 80-200mm f/2.8L. Its major features include: a ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) drive, built-in full-time manual focusing, short minimum focusing distance of 1.5m, high marginal illumination, and compatibility with Extenders EF1.4X and EF2X (extends the zoom range with AF to 98-280mm f/4 or 140-400mm f/5.6 respectively). Although this is a large aperture telephoto zoom lens, it is equipped with four low refraction/low dispersion UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass lens elements (2nd,3rd,11th & 13th) that offer excellent contrast and sharpness. This is a lens that deserves to be known as a super high performance telephoto zoom lens

The only portait lens you'll ever need. I have no need to spend an extra $1200 for I.S., because I use a T.R.I.P.O.D. I can count eyelashes on every exposure.
love it, would buy it again.

anything with sports. Purchased this specifically for High School Varsity Football under the lights on Friday night and it performed awesome. Will also use this for indoor wrestling in a gym with poor lighting. I haven't used it in a gym yet, but I'm sure it will perform well.

Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 Outstanding
from West Monroe, LA
Use this lens in my horse racing ventures. It really helps with an allaround lens. The f2.8 is the reason, and, of course, the Canon name. This is an icon. I didn't need the IS, and this lens has proven itself over the years to be the standard. If I find out I need the IS, I'll buy one, but for now I really enjoy the lens. The price was fair [...]
Great, should have purchased earlier
Old lens design, still great performance. AF is fast and accurate. Sharp wide open, no problem using f/2.8 even in the harshest of lighting. Wish i had the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II but i'm very happy with this lens at half the price of the updated version.
Sharpest photos I have ever taken

I thought my old photos were clear until i compared them with this lens. It was an expensive experiment, but it is clear to me how much better this lens is than any other ones I have.
