Designed to deliver ultra-high quality images along with lightning fast operation, the new Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM telephoto zoom lens brings a favorite zoom range to the celebrated Canon L-series of lenses. It features two Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) elements for improved image quality and reduced chromatic aberration, incorporates a floating focusing mechanism for sharpness from close up to infinity, plus an IS system that increases usability by approximately four stops. The EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM features a function that prevents erroneous operation when the lens is mounted on a tripod or monopod. Gleaming white, with a removable tripod collar, dust and water resistant construction, and a newly developed Fluorine coating that keeps soiling, smears and fingerprints to a minimum, its phenomenal performance and flexibility is assured. For portraiture or to bring what's far away up close, this addition to the L-series is guaranteed to perform.

Comments about EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM UD Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras:
I bought this lens to replace the EF 70-300 DO that I own and I couldn't be happier. The image quality throughout the zoom range is far better than the DO, as is the IS. I use the lens primarily for wildlife photography and have been very pleased with the performance of this lens. The only downside is that the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L is bigger and heavier than the DO - a small price to pay
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Better than expected!

I'm finding I'm mostly using my 70-200/2.8 II IS for portraits these days (where I'm often shooting at F/5.6 or F/8 to get enough DOF) or using it for the longer end where I'm often adding the 1.4X. I thought I'd give this lens a try as it seems it might cover those uses in a smaller, lighter, more convenient package. The 70-200 is a tough act to follow so I was prepared to be a bit disappointed. I have NOT been! This is a great lens...super sharp, very fast AF, great IS, nice build quality. A bit pricey for a slow, variable aperture lens but IMO it's worth it once you see the results.
I trust Canon L lens.

A great all-round lens

We've even used this lens for studio baby photos. It's a a lovely lens; a little heavy for everyday use but manageable, and a little long at the low end, but still the best choice we could find.

I had a 70-200 2.8L but it was just to heavy for my 68 years hands to hold steady for those times I can't or won't use a tripod. The 70-300 provides the perfect alternative. Yes, it is slower (4-5.6) but most of my shooting is done in the daylight hours anyway so this is not a problem. The lens, while still fairly heavy, is much easier to handhold. It is tack-sharp and autofocuses instantly for me on my 7D. And the extra zoom length over the 70-200 is great! I have even read where the Kenko 1.4 teleconverter provides autofocus throught the zoom range (whereas the Canon does not) and image quality is maintained. I plan on trying this as well.
A great carry-around L Lens!

This is my 2nd "L" lens for my 7D .. I was originally thinking about getting the 100-400 L lens, but after reading some of the reviews on this lens, and seeing the significant weight difference, I went with the 70-300 and couldn't be happier. It's light enough to be able to handhold for video and lots of photos without needing a tripod or monopod. The image stabilization is absolutely INCREDIBLE, which is very important for video with our DSLR's. I love this lens, I can't wait to take it to the racetrack for some great car shots.

I had Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens before that, I wanted something newer version, So I bought this lens. L version is more quiet, but I wanted something more faster, so...after all I bought Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM lens.
