Packing advanced functional features in an innovative sleek design, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Low-Light Digital Camera is one of the most attractive photography options on the market. Featuring fundamental Sony technology and state of the art imaging software, the Sony Cyber-Shot is a camera to be rivaled. With its uninhibited Exmor low-light photos, effective 3.6x zoom and full 1080p HD video, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Low-Light Digital Camera truly is a professional's compact camera.

Groundbreaking Exmor Low Light Photos Mean Crystal Clear Images in Any Light
The Exmor CMOS image sensor paired with the fine-tuned BIONZ image processor work together to offer the utmost clarity in every image captured by the Sony Cyber-Shot. Utilizing advanced technology, the Exmor sensor actually features a back illuminated design, which allows it to receive light directly with no wires or other obstructions blocking its way. This design allows more light to reach the receptor and results in clearer pictures with less noise and fuzziness. This innovative design creates not only purer pictures but also more vibrant video, particularly in low light settings. Exmor low light photos are a true advancement in the world of photography, and the Sony Cyber-Shot is one of the few devices on the market to feature this innovative structure.

Enhanced 3.6x Zoom Offers Clarity and Focus
Complete with a newly developed 3.6x zoom and Clear Image technology, the Sony RX100 delivers clarity and focus even from a distance. While most digital cameras employ a system of electronic cropping to zoom in to a distant object, the Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 operates on a different system. The Clear Image Zoom actually captures adjacent pixels and mimics the color pattern from these pixels to create new ones to match. This digital system paired with the Cyber-Shot?s already enhanced optical 3.6x zoom, offers remarkable precision and depth.

1080p HD Video Extends Camera Capacity
The Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 isn?t just great for taking still photos. It doubles as an effective video camera as well. Complete with full 1080p HD, the RX100 captures video that is as vibrant, clear and resolute as its pictures. Plus, with its advanced video processing, the Cyber-Shot supplies real time motion video with little distortion. The camera?s video can also be viewed in high definition on any HDTV. The RX100 also has the capacity to take video and still images at the same time.

Pairing outstanding photo capabilities with enhanced digital software and technology, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 is one of the top cameras on the market. Lauded as "the best pocket camera ever made" by The New York Times, the Sony RX100 promises a lot and delivers even more.

FEATURES

20.2 Megapixel Exmor 1inch CMOS Image Sensor

The massive 20.2MP Exmor 1 inch CMOS sensor captures ultra-high definition images that take full advantage of the camera's sharp Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens. The sensor enables advanced column A/D processing that reduces noise levels, resulting in astonishing low light images with incredible smooth and clear details

Bright F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T Lens with 3.6x Optical Zoom

This large-diameter F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens delivers refined background defocusing. It also features a premium multi-layered T coating that dramatically reduces ghost and flare caused by light reflection

P/A/S/M Modes for Video & Stills

Enjoy a full range of controls for video and still shooting from iAUTO mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. There are even on-screen prompts which help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control

Capture JPEG Files, RAW Files, or Both

The RX100 saves pictures as compact JPEG files and/or ultra-high quality RAW files. RAW files save images prior to de-mosaicing, white balance, sharpness and color enhancement. This retains maximum latitude for enhancing the image on your PC

Full HD 1080/60p Video Capture

Record crystal clear movies in Full HD 1080p at 60 fps. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HDTV. Plus, with dual recording for stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time

Low-Light ISO 6400 Sensitivity

Capture incredibly clear low-light pictures without sacrificing detail, thanks to the low-noise Exmor CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor

High-Speed Auto Focus

To improve focusing speed and sensitivity, the Exmor CMOS sensor uses its rapid throughput to deliver high-quality image signals to the camera's BIONZ processor, which provides intelligent response data to a high-speed actuator motor in the lens. The result is fast, DSLR-like focusing speeds even in low light

Up to 10 fps Burst Mode

Capture full 20.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 fps, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects

Large 3inchXtra Fine LCD Display

The 3inch(1229k dots) Xtra Fine LCD Display makes it easy to scroll through menus and preview pictures. Plus, the large display delivers brilliant-quality still images and movies while enabling easy focusing operation. It also features WhiteMagic technology, which increases visibility in bright daylight

Customizable Function Button

Assign up to seven different functions to the function button, to allow quick access to your most frequently used functions

Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode

Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode enables blur-free movies even while walking. Plus, the camera-shake compensation using Optical SteadyShot/Active Mode has been improved with the addition of electronic image stabilization, which makes it easier to obtain sharp, blur-free movies even when zooming in unsteady situations, such as shooting with one hand while walking

Memory Recall

MR (memory recall) mode can memorize up to three groups of the user's preferred settings. The settings include zoom magnification, white balance, exposure compensation, date and grid lines. This enables quick switching of settings at the right moment

Sophisticated Design with Pop Up Flash

The sophisticated aluminum body is lightweight, slim and strong. There's even an integrated pop up flash, which affords the convenience of flash photography everywhere you go

Auto Portrait Framing

Simply photograph a person and Auto Portrait Framing will save an additional, optimally framed image in portrait or landscape orientation. This mode combines Face Detection and By Pixel Super Resolution technologies with rule of thirds to provide beautifully composed and appealingly balanced full resolution portraits

Auto HDR Mode

Using auto HDR mode allows you to capture more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle - and more range than photo film. It combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second shot and the best shadow detail from a third shot for one incredible image (up to 6 EV stops). Plus, it works in a split second (recommended for still subjects)

Face Detection / Face Registration

The camera can automatically detect and register up to eight individual faces and adjust focus, exposure, white balance and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends. You can even prioritize children or adults

Multi-Aspect Ratio Recording for Still Images

Capture still images in any of four aspect ratios - 1:1, 2:3, 4:3, or 16:9 (vertical to horizontal). This provided the freedom to choose a ratio that matches the scene or the specific shooting purpose

3.6x Optical Zoom & 7.2 Digital Zoom

Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom digitally doubles optical zoom for closer photos

Four Focusing Modes

This camera has two Autofocus modes: Single-shot AF (AF-S) or Continuous AF (AF-C), which tracks moving objects. It also has Manual Focus for manual focusing freedom, and Direct Manual Focus (DMF), that first uses autofocusing to focus on the subject, and then allows fast and easy switching to manual focusing for even more precise adjustment

MF Assist & Peaking

Manual focus becomes much easier because peaking highlights the edges that are in focus in your choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where your focus setting can make or break your shot

Multi-Frame Noise Reduction

In this mode, the camera automatically shoots multiple images and layers them to produce a single noise-free image. This method provides noise reduction equivalent to a 2-stop lower shutter speed while maintaining the same aperture setting. Since the Multi Frame NR mode can be used in combination with P/A/S/M modes, it expands the user's shooting flexibility

Photo Creativity

The Photo Creativity interface enables you to easily enjoy the creative expression of SLR-quality digital imaging without complex jargon. Changes can be combined, removed and viewed in real time on the LCD display, which makes it a breeze to make adjustments. Choose from several different Photo Creativity functions using the convenient control wheel and center button including: Picture Effect, Background Defocus, Color, Brightness and Vividness

Picture Effect Mode

Picture Effect is a fun and simple way to convert ordinary landscapes and portraits by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Effects include: Soft Focus, Posterization, Retro Photo, High Contrast Monochrome, Rich-Tone Monochrome, Miniature, Soft High-key, Toy Camera, Pop Color, Partial Color, Watercolor Painting, HDR Painting and Illustration

Creative Style Settings

Control how the camera processes your images with six finishing styles: Standard, Vivid, B&W, Sunset, Portrait and Landscape. You can even fine-tune contrast, saturation and sharpness to your personal taste

Sweep Panorama Mode

Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter and sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest by continuously shooting images and stitching them together

Superior Auto Mode

In order to get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots, the camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using Backlight Correction HDR technology, and lower image noise using six shot layering technology. Superior Auto can intelligently detect 33 scenes for still images and movies, making it easy to get the best shot

Intelligent Scene Recognition Mode

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) automatically detects 33 different types of scenes for photos and 44 scenes for movies, and then selects the appropriate camera settings. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep

Digital Level Gauge

The digital level gauge allows for easier leveling of the camera

3 out of 5 stars   Great Camera
By Monistaf (NC) May 24, 2015
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)

Pros: Very compact, excellent picture quality, panoramic mode is good and video is easy to shoot.
Cons: The flash appears to be flimsy and I there is no manual button to release the flash. Also, when it pops up and fires, you have to be really careful to push it back in. The biggest problem I have is that the disk is not formatted in way that most computers can read (I have tried it on a MAC and Windows). You have to connect the camera directly to the computer using a USB cable to read the images off it. I would have preferred to stick the card in a card reader and get the images off the card without connecting the Camera.

4 out of 5 stars   Best camera I've purchased to date!
By K (Ohio) June 25, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: This camera takes beautiful pictures!! It's certainly as close as one can get to a DSLR camera in my experience. I'm pleased with this purchase but it's still new and I've not worked through each function. I do feel it's a perfect choice for its features and professional like pictures for those who don't wish to change lenses and desire a pocket/light weight camera. The one con that really bugs me (and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) about this camera is how there is no finger grip on the front of the camera like all my others. There is less space for your fingers in front (and in back) and it's very slippery and if not careful very easy to drop. Always use the wrist strap just in case. I wish Sony had thought this through because I have a Nikon that looks almost identical to it (though it doesn't even come close to Sony's picture quality) and holding the Nikon is very comfortable. Also, regarding the grip, I've many times accidentally hit the menu button, the record button and the others as well just by trying to find a comfortable way to hold it and I can't imagine how much harder that would be for a man. Also when using your left hand to try and find a place to hold it, that becomes difficult when using the flash. A FANTASTIC piece of equipment but it should have been a little larger for better hand placement with a rubber grip. Despite my con, I have so much fun with this Sony camera and wow, the optical zoom (the zoom that matters) is amazing for a pocket size camera. No regrets on my purchase and you won't have any either!!

By Chiekins (New York) March 30, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)

Pros: Size Pocketable
Cons: Pop Up Flash In Bad Spot
Other Comments: Use this camera when I need to quickly take photos at home. It is easy to use and takes great pictures. Plan to give it a real test on my vacation trip next month. My one negative is the placement of the pop-up flash. You must get used to not cover with your finger. Would have been great if it was manually controlled.

5 out of 5 stars   Best pocketable digicam ever made

Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 Megapixel, 3.6x zoom, 64GB Bundle (E3SNDSCRX100)

Pros: Bokeh, Customization, Low light, Low Light Customization
Cons: Documentation, Manual
Other Comments: This is a take anywhere camera because of its small size. It does well in just about any lighting condition. It is fully customizable according to the photographers taste in terms of output. Also some useful modes for beginners. I highly recommend getting the Book "The photographers guide to the Sony DSC-RX100" by Alexander White. Well worth the extra 10 bucks if you have a kindle. Much better than the online manual. Very poor manual that comes with the camera. The manual is the only negative about this purchase. I purchased it because of the great image quality and the fact that it really is pocketable.

Pros: Amazing Point And Shoot, Lots of extra features, Compact, Great image quality
Cons:

5 out of 5 stars   Pocket size, but HUGE performance
By JayJ (Chicago, IL) December 31, 2012
Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 Megapixel, 3.6x zoom, 64GB Bundle (E3SNDSCRX100)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Image Quality, Full Manual Controls, Jpegs Image Quality, Shoots raw, HD video
Cons: Manual focus control
Other Comments: This looks like a point and shoot, but is much better. That is why it isn't priced like a point and shoot. The image quality is fantastic, and HD video phenominal. It does a great job of focusing while taking video. The focus point is fully adjustable, and tracking is really good. My only gripe is the lens ring, which can set to focus during video needs to turn a lot to adjust focus. Perhaps a firmware update can change that? IMO, this camera is worth every penny of it's price. I'll be leaving my Canon 5D at home much more often.

5 out of 5 stars   Best pocketable camera

Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP 3.6x zoom, Large Exmor lowlight CMOS Sensor - OPEN BOX (SNDSCRX100OB)

Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: This is a significant improvement over my Cannon s95 (and the later Cannon models). It's worth the high price to have the best pocketable camera while my kids are little. But, it's not as good as a mid range DSLR camera. So, I will buy the next "big improvement" pocketable camera in a couple of years because there's still a lot of improvement possible.

5 out of 5 stars   The RX100 is a Miniature Marvel
By Bill K (Seneca, SC) December 19, 2012
Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 Megapixel 3.6x zoom 32GB Digital Camera Bundle (E5SNDSCRX100)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Great Video, Great display, Useful Art Filters, Excellent lens, Good manual control
Cons: Tricky To Grip
Other Comments: This camera replaces my Sony HX9V which was in some ways very similar, but the upgrade was well worth the added expense. The RX100 starts up faster, has a much better display, a faster f1.8 lens (although with much less zoom range), and has more useful features including a few Art Filters that actually do some amazing things. The RX100 menu system is easy to navigate, and offers complete control over all functions of the camera. The dedicated Function Button lets you choose 7 of the camera functions that you would like quicker access to without going through the menu pages -- very handy. Video is very sharp, and the image stabilization works very well (especially on the Active setting). There are many positive reviews of this camera on camera evaluation sites, and it is easy to see why. Sony has done an incredible job with the RX100, and it has become my new favorite camera. The image quality rivals my Canon 7D (with 24-105mm f4L IS USM), but it is much easier to carry around. A separate battery charger would have been a nice addition, but those are available separately. Fortunately, battery life is very good, and charging via USB is quick and simple enough. I have to give Sony credit for their Watercolor Art Filter. I have never found any of the in-camera artsy processing to be any good in previous cameras I have owned. They have all just been things that Photoshop or Painter applications could do much better. Sony worked some serious magic with a few of theirs, and I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with these creative options in the RX100 (see attached photo). The Illustration filters are also impressive. None of those work while shooting video (too much processing involved), but other filters (sepia, high-contrast B&W, color isolation, etc) can be applied while shooting video. You could most of that in post with your editing software, but there could be times when they come in handy as well. The little pop-up flash does a reasonably good job, but I find that i need to use it far less often than with previous cameras in low-light situations. The fast lens, and image stabilization let you snap shots without flash in all but the darkest interiors. Outdoors, the hand-held twilight setting gives excellent results. The control ring comes in handy when using P, A, S and M modes, letting you set exposure and/or aperture in conjunction with the rear dial. In other modes it can vary zoom or other functions. Some find the lack of click-stops off-putting, but I think it all works quite well. About the only caution I can mention would be that the camera is quite small, with a smooth metal body that can be somewhat slippery. The thumb rest is tiny, but without it there would be nothing to grip. I recommend using the included wrist strap whenever you aren't using a tripod or some other support. Given the business-like aesthetic of the camera, I don't find the handling to be a fault. Some folks complain that there is no hot-shoe, and no viewfinder. For the intended purpose of this tiny camera, both of those would have been add-ons that probably would have compromised the result. Having such a small pocketable camera that captures such great images is really the major appeal of the RX100. Nothing else comes close in this regard. Yes, it costs more, but I believe the added cost is justified.

4 out of 5 stars   Expensive but totally worth it
By Tim Danger (Seattle, WA) September 26, 2012
Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 Megapixel, 3.6x zoom, 8GB Bundle (E2SNDSCRX100)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Great picture quality, Small Size, Fits in your pocket, Sweep Panorama is awesome, Lots of manual controls, Easy Scene Modes
Cons: No External Audio Jack, Expensive
Other Comments: I took my Sony RX100 on a backpacking trip after owning it for only 1 day. I was able to get fantastic photos right away without too much effort. It'll take a little time to learn everything about the camera, but so far I'm very impressed. The photos that this baby takes do not look like they come from a pocket camera. And the sweep panorama feature is unbelievable.
