The SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC covers the heavily-used 17-50mm focal distance range (angle of view equivalent to 26-78mm when converted to the full frame format) making it an extremely versatile, high-performance zoom lens. Achieving sharpness and striking contrast, the lens produces beautiful images that are enhanced by the shallow depth-of-field afforded by the maximum aperture of F/2.8 and enriches the user's range of photographic expression. The new lens is equipped with Tamron's proprietary Vibration Compensation (VC) image stabilization mechanism, which provides more opportunities for hand-held photography, such as low-lit conditions like evening, night scenes and indoors, leading to a dramatically enhanced level of photographic freedom.

Comments about Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2 8 XR Di II VC LD Lens for Nikon AF + 6-yr USA Warranty:
This lens is an excellent value. My four star rating is only because it can get better if you're willing to triple the price. The Good: Price, features, high quality glass and build for this level of lens. It feels just as solid as the Nikon plastic lenses. The Bad: The ED glass that Tamron uses (and all ED glass for that matter) can have focal length variations at different temperatures. Shooting in very hot or very cold climate may require manual focus to really get it perfectly sharp. Sharpness also suffers slightly while the VC is turned on, but it's sharper than you'd get with a non VC lens while hand held in low lighting. Just remember to turn off the VC when you go to a tripod or bright lighting for best results.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
