All New Sony DSC-RX100: A Pocket Camera That Packs A Punch

The fine folks over at Sony have just announced the latest addition to their Cyber-shot line up: the Sony Cyber-shot DCS-RX100. This pocket-sized camera punches in well above its weight level with a super-powerful sensor, on-the-lens controls, and all of the features you’ve come to expect from the Cyber-shot line up. Billed as the compact camera for professionals, this Cyber-shot is a great back-up to a traditional DSLR. With so much power packed in, it’s amazing that it can fit comfortably in your pocket!

So, how strong is this camera? Well, the RX100 comes with a 20 Megapixel CMOS sensor. Measuring in at 13.2mm x 8.8mm versus the 7.6mm x 5.7mm found in the S100, the RX100 senor clocks in at ~2.7 times bigger. This larger sensor allows the RX100 to capture more light from the scene, reproducing the shot you want with greater fidelity and breath-taking detail. On top of a puissant sensor, this camera includes a high-performance Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens. Don’t let its size fool you, either. This lens brings you 3.6x optical zoom and the F1.8 circular aperture allows you to get some great defocused backgrounds in your shots. The integrated control ring puts the controls right where you need them, letting you change the settings without pulling the camera away from your eye.

If that’s not enough, the RX100 offers you complete creative control. There are plenty of modes and settings for pros and the on-screen prompts are great for beginners, helping them to hone their skills and build their confidence, taking them from novices to seasoned photographers.

Lastly, the RX100 can create amazingly detailed, super-smooth movies in full HD 1080/60p at a staggering framerate of 60 fps. Coupled with the large sensor and Carl Zeiss lens, this camera can capture fast-moving subjects in low-light and render them in video so clear that it’ll make you wonder that you can fit this camera in your pocket.
