Canon EOS Rebel T1i / 500D 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only)

Discontinued.
Condition: Brand new, USA Warranty

Canon's EOS Rebel T1i is packed with features, both refined and new. In addition to its admirable performance with an all-new 15.1 Megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coating, and compatibility with the EOS System of lenses and Speedlites, the EOS Rebel T1i adds remarkable Full HD video capture at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. An HDMI port allows for quick connections to high definition TVs and monitors for easy viewing of your stills and video. The entire operation is simple and easy even if you are a beginner. You'll have uncompromised EOS Digital performance with power and flexibility right in the palm of your hand.

New 15.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor for faster processing of fine detail and natural color reproduction, 14-bit A/D conversion for smooth color tones and gradations.

Canon's CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. It offers many of the same new technologies as used by Canon's professional cameras to maximize each pixel's light gathering efficiency. Its APS-C size sensor creates an effective 1.6x field of view (compared to 35mm format). Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation and offers improvements in both fine detail and natural color reproduction. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel T1i's image sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations.

Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution with HDMI output for HD viewing of stills and video.

The EOS Rebel T1i shoots brilliant video, even in full high definition. By simply selecting Movie mode on the EOS Rebel T1i's mode dial, the camera's 3.0-inch LCD lights up, and it's ready to go. Shooting is at a frame rate of 30 fps when shooting SD or HD quality video (640 x 480 and 1280 x 720 pixels, respectively) and at a frame rate of 20 fps in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) recording. Sound is recorded through the camera's built-in microphone. Playback modes are simple to access, and all Live View AF features can be used in shooting video.

Live View Function for stills (Quick, Live and Face Detection AF modes) and video.

With Live View Function on the EOS Rebel T1i, you can enjoy nearly every camera function available in normal shooting, all with the convenience of composing on the camera's brilliant 3.0-inch LCD monitor. You can zoom in and navigate the composition and there's even a grid overlay for architectural shots. Live View focusing modes include Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection AF mode and these are easily selectable through the convenient Live View Function menu.

3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) monitor with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coatings for improved viewing and smudge protection.

The EOS Rebel T1i has a 3.0-inch high resolution LCD monitor that features 920,000 dots/VGA for far more detail than previous Rebel-series LCDs. It's the same screen found on professional models such as the EOS 5D Mark II. A number of features enhance usability: an anti-reflective and water-repellant coating provides a clearer and more smudge-resistant surface and screen brightness can be adjusted in 7 steps in accordance with ambient light.

Auto Lighting Optimizer for superior highlight-shadow control.

The EOS Rebel T1i's Auto Lighting Optimizer is yet another image-quality tool that comes to the rescue in tricky lighting conditions. It can actually lighten dark areas of a scene while ensuring that bright areas maintain tonal detail. It's available in all shooting modes, including P, Tv, Av and Manual.

Wide range ISO setting 100-3200 (ISO expansion: 6400, 12800).

The EOS Rebel T1i features a greatly expanded ISO range that makes shooting possible in situations previously impossible without flash. With an expanded setting to ISO 3200 (ISO expansion: 6400, 12800), along with the DIGIC 4 Image Processor's improved noise-reduction technology, your creative possibilities are nearly endless. Combine the EOS Rebel T1i with one of Canon's EF/EF-S lenses with Optical Image Stabilizer and watch your shooting possibilities expand even further.

Creative Auto goes a step beyond auto allowing control over frequently-changed settings.

Especially for beginners looking to expand their photographic horizons, the EOS Rebel T1i offers Creative Auto mode. While basic settings are based on full automatic operation, shooting guides on the LCD screen enable you to make corrections based on simple to follow guidelines. In essence, with Creative Auto mode, you can learn about photography while taking stunning photographs.

Compatible with over 60 Canon EF/EF-S lenses and most EOS System accessories.

EF & EF-S Lenses
EOS Rebel T1i is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF and EF-S lineup, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto lenses. Canon lenses employ advanced optical expertise and micron-precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance in all facets of the photographic process. Special optical technologies, such as Aspherical, ultra-low dispersion, or fluorite elements are featured in the universally acclaimed L-series lenses, and Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology is featured in select lenses, including the EF-S 18-55mm IS lens bundled with the EOS Rebel T1i, to minimize the effect of camera shake. With Canon lenses, you can truly maximize the quality and performance of the EOS camera.

Flash Photography
The EOS Rebel T1i features Canon's acclaimed E-TTL II flash metering system. With any EX-series Speedlite, E-TTL II provides reliable flash output whether shooting fill-in flash pictures in sunlight or using flash in total darkness. With E-TTL II, the exact same 35-zone metering sensor used for measuring ambient light is also used for flash metering - giving even finer metering command of the image area. If you prefer a broader area for flash metering, there's a menu setting to change to "Average" flash metering - where the entire 35-zone area is measured evenly for flash exposure.

5 out of 5 stars   Great Value
By Photo guy (Seattle) July 15, 2010
Review submitted for Canon EOS Rebel T1i / 500D 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only) (CNDRT1IK)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: High ISO Performance, Quiet, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Easy To Use, Large Clear LCD
Cons:
Other Comments: I really like this camera a lot. I am replacing my original DSLR Rebel (300D). There are four things that caused me to upgrade: 1)fast speed of copy to storage. You never have to wait on the camera since you can take over 100 pictures at 3.4 frames per second; 2)High ISO... I now shoot at 1600 or 3200 (it goes higher, but noise increases). This makes the compromise of non-professional lens much more feasible; 3)low light focus (very quick) 4)video (its nice to have the option although this is no camcorder). I use a Sigma 18-250mm and with the high ISO is works great. I recommend you buy the body only and spend the $475 on the Sigma lens. I actually think the 15M pixel is way more than enough. I have read that you can set it to a lower resolution and save a lot of file space with the same picture quality (unless you are blowing up your photos to make posters). How could you find a better value than this camera!

5 out of 5 stars   The best camera that's under 1000.
By Scoots (Gilbert AZ) June 06, 2010
Review submitted for Canon EOS Rebel T1i / 500D 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only) (CNDRT1IK)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Fast Shutter Speed, Large Clear LCD, Good Image Stabilization, Quiet, Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
Cons:
Other Comments: This is probably hands down the best camera you can get under 1000. I did some homework and this camera was highly recommended by consumer reports. I just don't have any complaints. The photographs are amazing. Has great features. 15 megapixal. Takes great video. You can shoot in multiple formats, including RAW. The camera is very light, so if it was heavier, it would probably be easier to take better video, but still I can't complain. For the price, quality and features, you can't go wrong with this camera. For the ease of use and quality of pictures it can achieve, this is the camera to get. If you don't want to spend more then 1000, but you want to get the kind of quality you can get when you spend more then 600, this is the camera. The ISO adjustments and range of ISO and Range of shutter speeds, you can get so many great kind of photographs in all kinds of conditions. Does amazing in the worst lighting conditions. It's sickening.

Pros: Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Good Image Quality, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Easy To Use, High ISO Performance, Fast Shutter Speed
Cons:
Other Comments: My wife and I have been saving for a while to get a DSLR. We both got photography minors during our undergrad education. We both have Canon Rebel G film SLR cameras. Making the switch to Canon DSLR was a no-brainer. We already had the lenses and understanding of the interface and technology. We love our Canon 500D (T1i). It takes fantastic, sharp, and accurate photographs, even with the kit lens. We are looking forward to investing in wide angle, macro, and telephoto IS lenses in the future. It is a great buy. Do it. (Purchase the previous years model to save money. Canon will probably come out with a new model soon, so then get the 550D instead of the latest version.)

4 out of 5 stars   Pro photographer Rebel t1i
By biker bob (usabikerparties[@]) May 09, 2010
Review submitted for Canon EOS Rebel T1i / 500D 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only) (CNDRT1IK)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: High ISO Performance, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality
Cons:
Other Comments: I'm a pro photographer and have a large collection of cameras, all different makes and models. Including several different versions of Canon Rebels. The main improvement on the T1i (compared to the previous Canon Rebel models) is a much higher ISO setting, finally allowing you to use this camera for low light photography without a flash. You can jack the ISO high enough while shooting bands and twilight photos that pictures without a flash in low light is no longer a problem... which was always my main beef with the rebels. Glad they finally fixed it. The rest of the camera is all regular canon. Most of the important setting controls are located on buttons on the back of the camera which makes it easy to adjust on the fly, and canon's pinpoint focus always appreciated. The movie mode does work, although you have to manually focus your lens if you expect decent results. And the ''take a picture while you shoot video'' option is a sick joke. While shooting video you CAN take a picture... but it pauses the video for a second while the still it being shot. What's the point of that? So you can film a 3 minute video clip full of 1 second ''hickups'' in the video? Dunno what Canon was thinking on that one. All in all this is a good all round intermediate camera. Coupled with a Tamron 18-200 5.6 lens it's a very good ''go anywhere, do anything'' combo that's hard to beat for the price. And please don't bother commenting on this review? Yes, you can buy a better camera, faster glass and more precise and accurate lenses... but like I said, FOR THE PRICE it's a good rock solid working combo that will do the job for about 95% of all photographers out there.
