We have been using this ice-cream maker to make custom flovored sorbets. The sorbet is a bit too soft at first so you have to let it set in the freezer for a couple of hours. We can't wait to try tropical ice-cream flavors!

If you follow the instructions you will have ice cream in a few hours. A kid could do it. Cleaning is annoying because once you scoop the ice cream out to put it in the freezer for hardening, the container remains really cold...and thus hard to clean until it defrosts. This is the way to go for custom ice cream. Note to the lactose intolerant -- sick of paying high prices for the few flavors of Lactaid ice cream? Get one of these and make your own using Lactaid half and half.
To be practical, you will need to store the freezer ring in your freezer all the time during the summer months
