Key Features

20.1 MP Exmor HD APS sensor with 8 FPS continuous shooting
You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements. Thanks to the 20.1 megapixel APS-C sensor size and Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS technology, the camera achieves high resolution with no penalty in low-light sensitivity or sensor noise.

Translucent Mirror Technology accelerates AF performance
Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. The SLT-A58, with Translucent Mirror Technology, directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously.

1080/60i/24p Full AVCHD or 1080/30p MP4 movies
Record stunning high quality 1080 Full HD Video in either 60i or 24p frames per second. Records in your choice of 1080/60i or 24p Blu-Ray quality AVCHD format or in PC-friendly 1080/30p MP4 format.

Lock-on AF for even easier focusing of moving subjects
Using the 15-point autofocus sensor and Sony's subject recognition technologies, Object Tracking AF can maintain accurate focus on your subject even when it changes position in the frame.

High Contrast SVGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF
The Tru-finder Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) is super bright and easy to see with 1x magnification, ultra-sharp with 1.2 million dots and provides 100% frame coverage. Adjustable magnification optimizes eye-point for users with eyeglasses.

Up to ISO 16000 sensitivity with advanced noise reduction
With a new Exmor sensor that features the same adaptive noise reduction technology from Sonys flagship SLT-A99V, the SLT-A58 easily offers a wide range of sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 16000.

Auto Object Framing intelligently fills the frame with your subject
Easily create studio quality portraits of still lifes, moving subjects and even macro close-ups using the iAuto internal exposure intelligence found in the SLT-A58. Simply photograph the subject and the Auto Portrait Framing feature will save an additional, optimally framed image in portrait or landscape orientation.
Combining Face Detection and By Pixel Super Resolution technologies with Rule of Thirds, and Auto Object Framing provides enhanced images for beautifully composed and appealingly balanced full resolution portraits.

SteadyShot INSIDEimage stabilization
Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A-mount lens because it provides compensation equivalent to approximately 2 to 4.5 additional steps in shutter speed, allowing for more hand held opportunities in low light or longer focal lengths.

Advanced 15-point AF system with 3 Cross-sensors
To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Three cross-type sensors to maximize focus precision.

Large 2.7-inch Tilt-able, 460K dot Clear Photo LCD screen
Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Fold it flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel.

Auto HDR built into camera
Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot. Captures in a split second. (Recommended for still subjects.)

Picture Effects
Ordinary scenes become extraordinary photos and movies with Picture Effects. Choose from 11 modes and 15 effects that significantly increase visual impact by adjusting camera parameters and applying advanced processing techniques.

Multi-frame NR
Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600. (Recommended for still subjects.)

Hand-held Twilight
Get cleaner and sharper nighttime pictures beyond the capability of traditional cameras without using flash or a tripod. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data with separate algorithms for still and moving parts of the picture reduces blur, minimizes noise and enables extraordinary detail.

5 out of 5 stars   Sony A-58 Camera
By PlanoBill (Plano, Texas) September 12, 2015
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 32 GB Bundle (E2SNSLTA58K)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: This camera accepts all of my old Minolta lenses without an adapter. My 70-300 lens becomes a 135 - 450 lens and I can still apply the 2x power from the camera. The pictures are great and the camera cost less than comparable Nikons or any other brand, with more and better features. The package arrived on schedule and complete. Beach Camera was very good with their explanations and service. I would recommend them to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars   It works well
By Tri Chempak (Bristol, TN) January 29, 2015
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 32 GB Bundle (E2SNSLTA58K)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: Construction and quality are very good. Instructions / manual are accurate and easy to follow. Works with my old Minolta Maxxum lenses. Viewfinder and LCD screen are bright and clear. Does not consume the battery power quickly. Menus are simple and easy to follow. Very high pixel count so, enlargment potential is excellent.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Other Comments: There is so much flexibility and there are so many accessories that will work with this camera that it takes a little practice to find the things that you need for your type of photography. You really do have to read the manual. The camera is not complex but, it offers a lot of functionality. The first time the auto-flash deploys is a shocker.

5 out of 5 stars   Sony A58 bundle
By Ken (Wichita, KS) October 14, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 32 GB 55-300mm Lens Bundle (E6SNSLTA58K)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: Great features. This camera seems to do better with its intelligent auto and superior auto modes than anything I would choose. Its 15-point autofocus works very well and fast. It has a handheld twilight mode that uses multiple shots to clean up a picture and eliminate shake. Relatively light weight.Really impressive performance for the price. Although its automatic features work amazingly well, it also allows any manual tweaking you'd need -- it even shows when it's in focus in manual mode.
Cons: Light weight is achieved by using a lot of plastic. This could turn into a durability issue. This camera is neither pocketable nor a full-fledged DSLR, so it has neither maximum portability nor professional quality. Some of the features, like auto HDR and digital zoom, are disabled in RAW mode. The basic lens has gotten rather mediocre reviews elsewhere. Although the long lens includes a lens hood, a useful and inexpensive addition to the kit would have been a lens hood for the basic lens. A remote shutter is not included, and it looks like that is an expensive accessory for this model because of some things Sony has changed in its design.
Other Comments: The kit includes lots of good stuff. The 58-300 lens covers a remarkable range, and if you shoot JPEG instead of RAW, you can even take advantage of additional 4X digital zoom. The standard lens covers most range you'd need. Having a spare battery and a 32GB memory card included saves the expense of getting some of the basic needs. The camera bag is OK but has very little configuration flexibiity -- you'll want to find something better. A polarizing filter is very useful, but a UV filter's usefulness is questionable, and a fluorescent filter is unnecessary when you shoot RAW pictures. This kit gave me very good value when I needed most of the components, and it included more elements than I would have expected for the price.

3 out of 5 stars   Good Image Quality
By Marty (CA) April 22, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 32 GB Bundle (E2SNSLTA58K)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: Very good Jpeg Good video
Cons: This is a entry level model and it shows. The lens mount on the camera body is plastic and that was a deal beaker for me, after seeing that, the whole feel was just wrong. I sent it back for an upgrade to the SLT-A65V and although still plastic the build quality seems way better. BuyDig had no problem with the return and I could not be happier.
Other Comments: The SLT-A58K does take very good photos (jpeg) and crops to 16x9 in the camera, a feature most SLR cameras lack. Video is crisp and clear and the sound is what you would expect. If you do not mind a plastic lens mount on the camera body, this might be the entry level camera for you.

4 out of 5 stars   Nice entry level DSLR
By Pat (Rio Rancho NM) January 10, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K 20.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens - OPEN BOX (SNSLTA58KOB)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: I've got a Pentax ist and a Q, never planned to buy a Sony but a friend gave me an old Minolta Maxxum with a couple nice lenses so I got this so I could use the lenses. I've only shot about 100 pictures so far but it seems like a great camera with lots of cool features. I bought it open box and it has a little mark on the mirror that concens me but it doesn't seem to affect images so I guess I'll live with it. I bought both of my Pentax cameras from Beach so I had no reservations about buying from them again.

4 out of 5 stars   Nice Camera for the Money
By Rustnhere (PNW) December 08, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K 20.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens (SNSLTA58K)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: This is a feature rich camera for the money. The first DSLR I have seen with a digital zoom. The buttons are a little awkward for this feature but nice. With my 300mm zoom pushes it out to over 600mm. I wear a reflective jacket at times and I'm guessing the jacket is causing the live view to switch to the eye view. The only issue I have found with this camera.

4 out of 5 stars   Great dslr starter bundle
By Soccer dad (Omaha, NE) August 26, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 16 GB 55-300mm Lens Bundle (E5SNSLTA58K)
Pros: Great Camera, Great lens
Cons: Flimsy Camera Bag
Other Comments: This is a great starting dslr camera bundle for beginners. Have already got some amazing sports pictures of my kids. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the camera bag is a little flimsy. It works ok, but I am going to get one that has better padding/protection. Don't let the bag stop you from buying though.

3 out of 5 stars   Wireless remote DOESN'T WORK on this one
By Triplex (California) July 01, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K 20.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens (SNSLTA58K)
Pros: Good Camera
Cons: Overpriced, Limited Instructionmanual, limited manual, Hard To Navigate Buttons
Other Comments: The Wireless Shutter Remote provided in this bundle doesn't work for this camera! I have bought the deal from 2 weeks ago and received a Vivitar Wireless Shutter Release Remote Control with it, with no instructions in how to sync with the camera. After chatting with the Sony Tech Support, I was informed that this camera cannot work with ANY wireless remote control. I have notified BuyDig about this issue, but apparently they don't hear complaints! The camera is very good, although it is hard to navigate the settings. I have to press 3 buttons to deactivate the auto flash for example. The manual in the box is very limited. If you buy it, go to Sony website and download the 215-page manual (named SLTA58_handbook.pdf). It is very helpful.

2 out of 5 stars   CAMERA CANNOT USE THIS REMOTE CONTROL!!!
By Triplex (Inland Empire, CA) June 14, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K 20.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens + 55-300mm Lens (E13SNSLTA58K)
Pros: Stabilization System, Large sensor, Light Weight
Cons: Low resolution screen, confusing menu, Cannot Use Remotes, Screen Does Not Flip, Small screen
Other Comments: Be aware! BuyDig included the Infrared Shutter Remote Control, but it is not compatible with this camera! This is the info that I got from Sony tech support by chat: "I have checked the specifications of the SLT-A58 camera and it does not have a remote sensor. It does not have the functionality to be controlled by a wireless remote."

4 out of 5 stars   Camera great, Bundle not
By krc (Radford, VA) June 04, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A58K Digital SLR Camera 32 GB 55-200mm Lens Bundle (E4SNSLTA58K)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: I use this camera for all types of photography. Macro, portraits, landscape, live action. I purchased the Sony a58 because the anti-shake feature is built into the camera body not in the lens as with Nikon and Canon brands. The automatic settings and options are easy to use once you start to use them repeatedly. The viewfinder and LCD display are clear. I cannot wait to learn the manual photography skills necessary to take even better photos. The built in help and tips are helpful. I understand the marketing philosophy with "Bundling". However, I have already replaced the camera bag with a much better bag that will protect my purchase. The memory card reader was defective, causing the loss of several photos and having to reformat the memory card. I replaced the defective card reader with a better reader and purchased another memory card to be safe. Overall, I am very happy with my choice of a Sony a58, great camera. I had a good experience with the online salesman over the telephone. I have recommended Sony cameras and Beach Camera to friends.
