Sony's NEX-3NL 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 16-50mm lens, the world's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera, boasts a 16.1 MP Exmor APS-C sensor for superior image rendition, a 180-degree tilting LCD screen for easy self-portraits and full HD movie shooting at 60i/24p.
16.1 MP Exmor HD APS Sensor? For Incredible Detail and Gorgeous EnlargementsBecause of the NEX's large 16.1 MP APS-C sensor size and Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS technology, the stunning camera achieves high resolutions with no tradeoff for low-light sensitivity. As camera manufacturers continue to race to the top of the megapixel mountain, Sony is stepping up their game. The 16.1megapixel Exmor Sensor will produce amazing detail in an enormous range of light conditions.
16-50mm Lens Boasts Motor Zoom Lever and Body ControlA new, modern digital camera is nothing without its lens system ? Sony's NEX-3NL boasts a new SELP 16-50mm lens with motor zoom lever and body control. What does this equate to? The new zoom lever on the body of the camera allows for effortless one-handed operation and smooth zooming, even when shooting self-portraits.
Interchangeable Lens Changes the Playing FieldAs billed by Sony as the world's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera, the NEX appeals to those shooting enthusiasts who have outgrown the limited capabilities of their compact point-and-shoot models yet aren't quite ready to carry around a relatively large DSLR. This type of camera offers the power and flexibility of an interchangeable lens system with full manual features and improved-upon point-and-shoot performance ? without the added bulk of a DSLR.
Beyond the myriad of advanced features, this camera represents an amazing value for a design so ahead of its time; further, there is essentially no other camera like it in its class that can compete for quality parts/build, renowned Sony customer support and ease-of-use.
Dimensions (Approx.): Approx. 4-3/8 ? 2-2-1/2 ? 1-3/8 in (109.9 x 62 x 34.6 mm) (W/H/D) excluding protrusions
Perfect for self-portraits or casual snaps, the natural form ensures quick, comfortable handling and makes the camera easy to carry around. In addition, the textured grip prevents slipping even when shooting one-handed or when using exceptionally large lenses.
Photo Creativity feature
NEX-3N provides easy access to most Picture Effect settings as well as controls for Background Defocus, Brightness, Color and Vividness. Just activate Photo Creativity, choose the appropriate item then adjust while viewing in real-time on the LCD screen. The ability to combine settings offers nearly unlimited creative control, and lets you compensate for tricky lighting.
Superior Auto mode
Use Superior Auto mode to shoot photos and movies with the ease of a compact digital camera. In this mode, the camera recognizes the current shooting environment then adjusts settings for optimal results. Superior Auto also includes Auto HDR and Hand-held Twilight modes, both of which employ image compositing technology to handle difficult lighting by recording multiple images at high speed then compositing them to produce the final photo.
Anti-Motion Blur mode
Corrects for subject movement to capture amazingly clean and sharp images in low light. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six creates a single image that minimizes subject blur.
Hand-held Twilight Mode
Get cleaner and sharper nighttime pictures?beyond the capability of traditional cameras without using flash or a tripod. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six creates a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise.
Face Detection/Smile Shutter
Set NEX-3N to recognize faces and smiles. Face Detection locates up to eight faces in a composition then adjusts exposure, white balance and other settings based on these faces. Smile Shutter adjustable in three levels automatically takes a shot when smiles in the scene are at their brightest.
Tailor the look of photos and movies before shooting. Choose from one of six settings Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset or Black & White depending on the scene or your creative intent.

Great first camera to learn DSLR use
from NJ, USA
My first interchangeable lens camera, so can't compare. But I've found it adequate for starter camera. Can teach all the different factors influencing a good shot, especially in (semi-)manual modes and manual lens. I was dissatisfied with photos in dark areas, until I tried a difference lens. F values below kit-lens level are needed.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great quality photos in a small camera
Great camera for travel and for use as a street camera. Also good to take pictures around the house. The image quality is outstanding and the build quality is quite good. Only two drawbacks in my opinion: 1. You have to look into the menu to find different almost every photo setting. 2. The camera focuses quickly but is not lightning fast. If you are concered mostly about photo quality and smaller size with a large sensor, thent this camera is very good.
Excellent SLR Quality In Compact Size
from Texas, USA
This is a very powerful little camera that fills the niche between the top-end fixed lens compacts and a full size SLR. It is the perfect camera for those who want a compact, easier to carry size that has the quality and greater versatility of a much larger SLR if they don't mind a trade-off in having fewer "lights and bells" features. It has very fast zoom and auto operation, but it also provides full-range, manual selection of either shutter-preferred or aperture-preferred shooting for special situations. There are many "old style 35mm" custom/molded type cases available that provide good carry protection while the flip-open front cover allows for much faster shooting than trying to drag a camera out of a bulky zippered bag. It makes a great travel camera without making me feel like a pack mule because the compact size and light weight allow an easy carry in the custom-fit case with only a wrist strap. It doesn't have all the special effect features, remote control operation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, self levitation, or space/time demodulating flux capacitor that my large and much higher priced SLR contains, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't see any quality difference between the pictures they both produce. Great camera - great price.

WIll use this with my Nikon D600, for traveling. It can be used for everything if you attach different lenses on it.
