About Me Casual Photographer
An 18 - 200 lens is better so you don't have to interchange or carry 2 lenses. This one does not even compare to my 18-200 Sigma.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This is the best lens I have ever had. Has an amazing zoom, beautiful desing. All of it is excellent
Best Lens in my bag
from Northern Virginia
This is the best lens in my bag and I've found it to be consistently sharp with great contrast.
Well balanced Tele Zoom
from Homer, AK
It is a nicely made and finished lens which works great on my Sony NEX 7. It is decent wide open, very sharp two stops down. The zoom mechanism is well placed and easy to move, the focus ring well placed as well. It also continues the use of 49mm filters which is great if you use a polarizer. I am pleased with the color, sharpness, contrast and bokeh of this lens. It fulfills it's intended purpose beautifully.

About Me Semi-Professional
I bought this camera to try and cut down the bulk of most DSLR's. That it did, however it has a few things that would have made this a great camera instead of just a good camera. For most people, a Cybershot would be a better camera. The lens that came with the camera is useless, so plan on getting this lens or one close to the specs, then that large, no giant CMOS can do the work it was designed for. This lens should have come with the camera to start with, Sony knows this and makes little excuse that the main profit from this line will be in the accessories. The body at 3/4" is a good size and the ease of use is pure Sony all the way. I would recommend dumping the lens that came with your camera unless you got this one, which is a combination I did not see.

Great lens, great price

Finally, an affordable lens for my NEX. Used it for a high school football game and the shots were awsome.

I got the NEX5N last month, and couldn't wait for this 55-210mm lens to come out. I just received it last week! I find to be a great addition to the 18-55mm that comes with the camera. It provides telescoping capability, and works so seamlessly with the camera's shooting and editing functions. The camera recognizes the shutter and aperture ranges for this lens, so functions like manual focus, priority continuous shooting, and panoramic shots still comes out well. Optical quality is what you'd expect from Sony. Although it expectedly adds head weight to the camera, it's amazingly compact for the comparable zoom. For the cost, I feel that this telephoto addition was a better buy than getting the 18-200mm combination option.

18-200 vs 55-210
from Milton Washington
The 55-210 is 6.4 ozs lighter and a more fitting lens for the nex where the 18-200 is heavy and 67 mm in size. the 67 size does let more light in and 18 is better for shooting indoors where subjects are close to the camera but remember you will need a flash extender for this lens or the bigger HVL-F20s. If you don't want to spend a lot of money the 55-210 is the lens for you, As for me I have two nex cameras the nex 3 and the nex 5N so I plan on owning them both. I will probably only use the 18-200 on the nex 3 and get this lens for the nex5n.the reasons are the 18-200 is huge and looks out of place on the 5n camera and so does the flash.that being said I love the 18-200 and the F20s for hiking there's not much time to change out lens and or flash plus the dust and rain would be a problem.
