The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle Canon L-series lens. It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing.

A great reputable top of the line lens. It is pricey but is well worth it.

Love this lens!My previous ultra wide zoom for my Canon 5D mk II was the Tamron 17- 35 and the comparison is between the Tamron and the Canon is like night and day. I should have learn't by now that going cheap costs more in the end. If you want a great lens don't buy an aftermarket substitute

Better than 17-40 with one exception
from N. VA
I've had the 17-40 f4 L for a few years from BuyDig and loved it. I bought the 16-35 f2.8 L II and found that it may have better color correction at the edges and a pleasing color overall which, so far, I do not think is due to diffraction limited blending of contrast. The 16-35L II is much harder to get a good auto focus on the 5D Mk-II if I am in a hurry. I decided to sell the 17-40L and stick with the 16-35L II. It is only because I think I can mitigate the auto focus issue with patience which the 17-40L did not require. I'm not just talking about slow shutter speeds and f2.8 exposures. The first copy of the 16-35L II I had missed the focus on all points in the frame occasionally (like it focused beyond infinity) to the point of absurdity. The 2nd copy is much better and is good enough that I sold the beloved 17-40L.
I love this lens

I have resisted buying this lens because I had a 17-35 which I felt was doing the job for me. What a difference 1 mm can be, This lens is awesome and well worth the money.
Awesome lens - a bit pricey though

Great lens!!! It's everything I expected and am very happy I bought it. I did tons or research on this before finally pulling the trigger, and am glad I went this route. Hard to swallow the price tag though.
