Product Description:

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. This large aperture standard zoom lens is designed for digital SLR cameras and incorporates Sigma's efficient OS function. It is a compact lens with an overall length of just 3.6 inches. This lens covers a focal length from 17mm wide angle and offers a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal for many types of photography such as portraiture and landscapes. The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the viewfinder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement. Two FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite glass, plus two glass mold and one hybrid aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for all type of aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghost. This lens has superior peripheral brightness and provides sharp, high contrast images even at the maximum apertures. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Incorporating HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), the lens provides fast and quiet AF. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5. The rounded 7 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images. The inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for use with the supplied petal-type lens hood and circular polarizing filters.

1 out of 5 stars   Great Bundle, Bad Lens
By Mike (Chelmsford, MA) May 14, 2014
Review submitted for Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Standard Zoom Canon EOS DSLR Lens 9pc Kit (E6SG1750SEOS)

Pros: The bundle came with a great little cleaning kit and a bunch of other useful things for the same price I've seen just the lens go for. I loved that they included a UV filter to protect the lense.
Cons: The bag was cheap and not well padded but good enough to store non-fragile things in. The tripod is cheap and really only good for a lightwieght point and shoot at best. This lens is incredibly soft. I've got Sigma's 24-70 2.8 and love it! I was hoping for the same performance from this lens. Sadly I'm struggling to fing it's "sweet spot". I'm unable to get sharp images at any focal length. The softness is throughout the entire image not just the edges. I've actually resorted back to a kit 18-55mm for my wide angle until I can save up for a stronger wide probably from Canon.
Other Comments: While I've been impressed with a lot of the Sigma products lately the 17-50 has left me disappointed. The bundle is a great deal but I wouldn't recommend this lens at all.

4 out of 5 stars   Decent Kit
By CDTphoto (Wisconsin) March 19, 2014
Review submitted for Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Standard Zoom Canon EOS DSLR Lens 9pc Kit (E6SG1750SEOS)

Pros: Everything came packaged nicely. Package was on time. Nothing was missing.
Cons: Quality of extra items are not as I thought. Some of the items are useless and should be replaced to make the package.
Other Comments: Overall not a bad kit I found only the cleaning items and the UV filter to be useful. The filter is cheap but it does the job. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The blower has a rubber smell, but it doesn't bother me too much. The bag is too limited but I guess you can work with it. Can't really complain because they were free. The lens is good so far. I haven't had any problems yet. At least nothing particularly noticeable.

2 out of 5 stars   Do not buy this this lens!
By iluv2fly (Newnan, GA) May 27, 2012
Review submitted for Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera - Pro Lens Kit (E5SG1750SNA)
Pros: Quiet Focus Motor, Sharp at 50mm, Build Quality
Cons: Very Soft at 17mm
Other Comments: I can not recommend this lens! It is sharp at 50mm but when you go wide (17mm) it is extremely soft! If you don't believe me just research the web. Most independent reviews says the same thing. I didn't listen and thought that they were all super picky but I regret buying this lens! I have tried to figure this lens out for two weeks... I will return it!

2 out of 5 stars   Returned Lens - Not professional enough
By Taina35 (Upstate New York) August 25, 2011
Review submitted for Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital DSLR Camera (SG1750SNA)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons: Heavy, Colors were not vibrant, Not as sharp as expected
Other Comments: I was expecting more from this lens. Ended up returning it and getting the Nikon 50mm 1.8G which I am very happy with so far. The 17-50mm did not produce vibrant colors or focus as sharp as I was expecting it to for the price. It was nice for wide angle photos but didn't like the quality it produced.
