FUJINON 42x Optical Manual Zoom (24 - 1,000mm)* & Super Macro

The Fujinon optical 42x manual zoom lens (24 - 1,000mm)* effectively combines aspherical lenses, ED lens, and integrated lenses to achieve a bright aperture rating of f/2.8 - 5.6, and image stabilization. Super Macro mode allows close-up shooting from as near as 1cm and the manual barrel zoom ensures speedy, intuitive control of the camera.

    * 35mm format equivalent

84x Intelligent Digital Zoom

Controlled by the convenient Function (Fn) button, the Intelligent Digital Zoom offers an astonishing 84x magnification power, the equivalent of a 2000mm** focal length. In addition to magnifying the image, the EXR sensor intelligently minimizes noise in flat areas and sharpens and enhances contrast in edge areas and to create natural clarity and crispness even at super-telephoto magnification. Intelligent Digital Zoom also functions in EXR AUTO mode, to guarantee you exceptional shots with minimal effort.

** Equivalent to angle of view on 35mm format

Powerful Optical Image Stabilization

Lens shift image stabilization ensures that even hand-held shots are free from blur.

12-groups / 17-elements Configuration

Fifteen of the seventeen lens elements have Super EBC coating on both surfaces, reducing ghosting and flare for good results with backlit subjects and in other challenging situations.

ED Lens - Removing All Color Fringing Even at High Magnification

One ED lens has been employed for their low dispersion and effective reduction of chromatic aberrations. By preventing color fringing and reducing contrast, the FinePix HS50EXR lens captures images with superb accuracy across the zoom range from wide angle to telephoto.

Super EBC - Aiming for High Quality Images

All the lens elements used in the FinePix HS50EXR have been treated with multilayer Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating), the same process used for Fujinon broadcasting video lenses and large-format camera lenses acclaimed by professionals. Reducing ghosting and lens flare, the treatment promises clear image quality.

Intelligent Hybrid AF: world's fastest AF (0.05sec.*)

The clever hybrid autofocus system can choose between Phase Detection AF or switch to Contrast AF in low light to ensure the optimal focus system is used-dependent on the shooting conditions.

Phase-detection AF delivers unmatched speed - Intelligent Hybrid AF auto focuses in as fast as 0.05 sec.* thanks EXR CMOS II

Depending on the scene, Hybrid AF instantly switches between high-speed phase detection AF(found in most top-end SLRs), and contrast AF, which is employed when high contrast light is present. Applying the fastest algorithm according to the targeted subject and scene, Hybrid AF guarantees your subject will be in focus as quickly as possible(fastest 0.05 sec.*),ensuring your shots are captured perfectly.

  • Fast Startup - 0.5sec**
  • Shooting Interval - 0.5sec

**Fujifilm research based on CIPA standards.

EXR CMOS II make even dark scenes bright for high-quality images. Beautiful hand-held night scenes

Frames captured with high-speed continuous shooting at high sensitivity are overlapped to create a single optimum image, keeping noise to an absolute minimum. Image blur is minimized, even when camera is hand-held.

EXR AUTO

EXR Auto with Motion Detection automatically selects the optimum shooting mode from 108 possible patterns according to the demands of the composition, guaranteeing beautifully captured scenes and the best image quality possible.

Three-sensors-in-one

High Resolution

  • Just as your eyes see even the tiniest of details when looking at something in good light, HR (High Resolution) mode maximizes the 16 million pixels resolution of the FinePix HS50EXR to reproduce even the smallest details in bright, beautiful color.

Wide Dynamic Range

  • Just as your eyes see the full range of shadows to highlights in high-contrast scenes, DR mode simultaneously captures two images to produce a single image with significantly enhanced dynamic range, revealing subtle details in shadow and eliminating washout of bright areas.

High Sensitivity & Low Noise

  • Just as your eyes strive to make dark scenes as bright and detailed as possible, SN mode takes advantage of high-sensitivity to capture smooth texture and natural brightness with minimal noise.

Full HD Movie 1080p/60fps with continuous phase detection AF

Phase detection autofocus is active during movie recording for faster focus response.
Face-tracking autofocus is available during shooting, allowing focus to track a selected face throughout recording and ensuring that you never lose sight of your subject.

    * High Speed Movie can be recorded at the following speeds and sizes: 480fps (320 x 112 pixels), 160fps (320 x 240 pixels), 80fps (VGA 640 x 480 pixels).

Advanced Shooting Modes

Pro Focus Mode with Face Detection

This focus-bracketing mode emulates the gentle, out-of-focus background look of a DSLR when shooting portraits or macro subjects. A single press of the shutter first takes an exposure focused on the main subject, then additional exposures at different focus points*. This produces a final image emphasizing the sharply focused subject against a soft, out-of-focus background**.

* There must be sufficient distance between the subject and the background for this function to work properly.
** Except for subjects where focus bracketing is unable to produce sufficient defocus.

Pro Low-light Mode

Ideal for shooting non-moving subjects in low light, this mode automatically takes a series of four high-sensitivity & low-noise exposures and then combines them into an image with less noise than the single exposures.

Face Tracking Auto Focus

Face Detection couples with Tracking Auto Focus for new ways of capturing great people pictures, even when those people won't stop moving. Face Detection optimizes focus and exposure to ensure bright, clear faces, while Tracking Auto Focus maintains sharp focus on moving subjects. The result is attractively exposed, well-focused photos.

Playback Functions - Micro Thumbnail View

Up to 100 pictures can be viewed at a time in a 10x10 array of micro thumbnails. Convenient for smooth and comfortable playback.
Share your images with built in social networking

Don't wait until you get home to start choosing which pictures to upload to FACEBOOK. Start the process in camera by tagging the pictures you want to share. The next time you connect to your home computer your images will upload automatically. The same goes for movie clips too, which can also be uploaded to YouTube.

Easy Web Uploading to YouTube and FACEBOOK via MyFinePix Studio

It's as easy as one, two, three. Shoot pictures and tag them for upload to your FACEBOOK profile page or YouTube account.

Upload

When the FinePix HS50EXR is connected to a PC, the marked images are uploaded to the designated site, eliminating the need for time-consuming PC-based image processing or selection.

MyFinePix Studio Automatically Searches for New Images to Upload for You

MyFinePix Studio detects new images to upload. When finding new image to upload, the uploader starts automatically.

A hot-shoe accommodates an auxiliary TTL flash, for shooting scenes beyond the capability of the built-in flash. A selection of versatile compatible flash units is available from your FinePix dealer.

5 out of 5 stars   3 years with a DSLR... but this thing!
By OutreAnima (Portland, OR) November 05, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)

Pros: Incredible lens capability, outstanding dynamic range, comfortable grip, light weight, versatile display, easy video recording, great color reproduction, lightning fast sequential shooting.
Cons: Sensor size is tiny, speckling/noise, soft at pixel level, inefficient use of display for battery life, nonstandard USB connection, zoom a bit rough (prevents creep though)
Other Comments: The features and dynamic range alone make this an amazing camera. While sensor size has its quality drawbacks, it is easily made up for in the ease of getting well saturated and balanced images showing more within highlights and shadows than any DSLR I've ever seen. As a camera for birding or simply a photography enthusiast who wants a great all-in-one, Fuji has perfected the bridge camera in the HS50. Once you have it in your hands, it's hard to set it down until the battery is dead. This brings the fun back into talking pictures.

5 out of 5 stars   Fuji HS50 Superzoom
By Tommy G. (Springville, N.Y.) October 09, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)

Pros: Incredibly sharp photos at full zoom length. The camera body is not as large as some other reviews would have you believe. I own 2 full size DSLR's and they are large, this Fuji is not. It is light weight also without feeling "cheap". It is loaded with plenty of features to play with for creativity. The Fuji Super Intelligent Flash has lots of power for most lighting needs. And for this price, this camera can't be beat!
Cons: Fuji's RAW program is very difficult to work with. They could learn from Canon, Sony, or Minolta when it comes to designing an easier, more intuitive program.
Other Comments: This beauty is more than capable of being your main camera for a days shoot, as well as a superb, easy carry backup camera. If you are very interested in beginning photography this would be a great choice as a first camera because you will get an easy to use, versatile camera that you won't have to upgrade at any time soon until you might want to get into DSLR photos.

5 out of 5 stars   Excelllent camera for the price
By Bill (New Hampshire) September 12, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)

Pros: Two automatic modes make it easier to get very good pictures under a lot of circumstances. For those who wish to experiment and refine results with their photo taking, the camera allows a multitude of settings to adjust shots. The raw picture mode is great to have for those who want to perform post-production work on their photos.
Cons: Some may but I personally don't see the need for the "intelligent zoom" feature which extends the zoom factor(at the expense of photo quality). The Optical zoom capability is very good for the price of this camera.

5 out of 5 stars   Best Hybrid Camera out there!!
By RobNY (Staten Island, NY) June 08, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: All in one zoom, manual focus option and especially manual zoom. Swivel LCD, an actual viewfinder to look through, fast speed and availability to snap stills in video mode. Great backup camera to my Canon DLRS. Love the creative filters. Very similar to operate like my Canons, therefore easy for me to use. Reasonable price (especially from Beach Camera), fast shipping and the 45-day return policy is a cut above the competition. Kudos Beach Camera! I just bought another for a friend.
Cons: Only wish it had an optical viewfinder, but a small compromise considering all of this camera's features.
Other Comments: Other manufacturers make some sort of hybrid like this one, but Fujifilm is the only one I know with a manual zoom ring (more precise and faster than electronic zooms) and a manual focus option.

Pros: Great Zoom, light weight considering the size, comfortable in the hand,
Cons: Zoom lens doesn't spin as smoothly as I think it should, but hasn't really been a problem so far.
Other Comments: I bought this camera for getting in closer to birds for identification purposes. And it does that quite well! I didn't want to spend high dollar on fancy slr and I think this is as close as you can get to one without forking out big bucks. Unless they come out with a pocket sized camera with this amount of zoom I will be using this one for a good long time.

4 out of 5 stars   BEST Hybrid Camera !!
By RobNY (Staten Island, New York) April 29, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: Unbelievable features. Loaded to the max. Creative filters a plus. Considering everything this camera can do with a 1000mm lens attached, this camera is very light and compact. Photos, while not super pro sharp, are sufficiently sharp enough to produce wonderful 11x14. Video at 60fps is better than some other top line brands. Genuine manual focus and manual zoom, can't get any better that that in a "hybrid". This is a great camera for the advanced amateur, light on the vacationer, or backup for the pro. Very well worth the price.
Cons: Electronic Viewfinder - while ok for amateurs, still does not compare to a genuine optical finder, favored by the pros, but at least it has a viewfinder. Many other hybrid type cameras don't even have a viewfinder requiring you to view through the LCD screen only. More important, most others DON'T HAVE MANUAL FOCUS WHEREAS THIS CAMERA DOES. That is an extremely important feature for the serious photographer. Would have given 5 stars but for the viewfinder.
Other Comments: Overall I love this camera as a backup. I would definitely take on vacation with me. I may be a bit old fashion, but I'm not a fan of Electronic Viewfinders (EVF). They're slow and require the power be "on" in order to just view the surroundings. I still prefer optical finders. Other than that, this is camera is great. Don't expect the "all in one" zoom lens to compare with pro level glass but is it more than sufficient for most photography, and have fun with the "creative filters". I'm thinking about buying more for my nephews and nieces starting out in photography.

5 out of 5 stars   Great Little Camera
By timbo762 (Lake Havasu, AZ) March 19, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)

Pros: This is a great little camera for everyday use. The manual 50 to 1 zoom is easy to use and will handle most situations. It's got enough features and modes to satisfy those that like to "play", but can bet set to "auto everything" for "point and shoot" ease. The photos look fine, even when enlarged. The on-camera flash works fine, but if you do a lot flash photography I highly recommend getting the EF-42 Flash unit.
Cons: Personal "nit picks" aside, there are no "cons".
Other Comments: I wish this, and other Fujifilm cameras, had more exposure compensation in the flash mode.

5 out of 5 stars   As expected
By yopi March 16, 2014
Review submitted for Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (FJFPHS50EXR)

Pros: Manual zoom and focus option. Fairly bright lens for its class. Slightly larger processor for its class. Great feel, esp. for larger hands. This is listed by some as a minus, but I like the size and still smaller than SLR. Great auto-focus. 8 MP options also great.
Cons: Plastic tripod ring. Some of the negatives expressed by others I did not share: larger size great for my larger hands, zoom more than enough and more not worth the length versus darker aperture at those longer lengths and camera shake. Does not have some of the extras like 3d and in-camera combination of multiple exposures, but at least the latter is better done with post-production software anyway and I found the solid still photo and video capabilities more than makes up for some lack of latest wizbangery for my needs.
Other Comments: The only competition in my mind is the Lumix with that incredible 2.8 lens. This is a great option for someone switching from SLR world (I need my hands and shoulders for kids now, good-bye massive camera bag). These manual zoom and focus features are unique and for me made the difference. For others used to point and shoot end this probably won't be missed. I understand they are discontinuing and new version will not have these manual features.

Pros: Manual Zoom Is Big Plus, Lot of features
Cons:
Other Comments: Zoom pics from other cameras use battery power and are difficult to use over time. This I keep at half zoom and get the frame I want instantly.

Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: Ive had camera for a couple weeks and really like it. Im a rank ameture and intend to use the camera to learn photography. I live on a small shoaldraft sailboat in the Florida Keys and fish the flats from a kayak and wading in more isolated unpopulated areas so I ve been wanting somethingbwith a longer lens for some time. I have a keen interest in bird life and other natural features of the areas I stay in to fish. I also like to share my experiences with friends sothe Fujis compatibility with the eye fi mobi sd card is of much advantage. I can be completely out of cellphone range and the camera quickly uploads jpg photos to my android device running 4.0.4 ics. Im waiting for a dry bag now so I can use the camera in all weather. Picture quality is great using tele from an anchored spot with boat movement and Its way more camera than I need for a great price. The download manual is sadly lacking and the table of contents is misleading. I'll gladly dig thru it for what I need and also check forums for tips on usage. Id buy it again in a second. And with the card I mentioned its a beast.

5 out of 5 stars   Big Bang for the Buck!

Pros: Vivid Pictures, Manual Settings Also, Easy Menu Selection, Many Scene Selections, Also Manual Settings, Comfortable to hold, Rear Viewer Swivels, Very reasonable price
Cons: none at this time
Other Comments: Having used a Fuji Finepix S800 for many years with wonderful results, I decided it was time to move up to the Fuji HS50EXR. Price was exceptional value for features and zoom capability. Menus were similar for the two cameras so I had very little trouble with them. Buy a Class 10 SDHD memory card right away, preferable 16 or 32mb, because HD video will not load fast enough on a slower card. Fills up buffer and is unable to continue. Its a memory card issue, not a camera issue. Anything else loads seamlessly on the slower card. I have little experience with other high end cameras, each kind has their own menus, good points and less desirable, but I am extremely happy with this one for anything I could think of needing a good, reliable fantastic zoom camera for. HD videos, panorama, scene selection, manual control, super macro that can catch a bee floating a half inch above a flower, I have not even begun to list the features and will continue to learn more settings as I use it more. I am extremely happy. Good also is the fact I have only one camera to carry around, not several very expensive lenses to tote and worry about losing. The swivel viewer feature lets you tripod the camera and easily set it for single or group photos while in front of the camera, and also if you desire to hold the camera low for different perspective shots the viewer will swivel up so you can easily see your subject, or down for holding your camera above the crowd to catch the band from the back of the crowd. I like the eyepiece viewer also because it allows me to hold the camera more still with less shaking. I just haven't found a weakness yet that would let me think the camera is not worth every penny I paid for it, which was less than $400,

5 out of 5 stars   Great alternative to a DSLR.

Pros: Very Good Focusing
Cons: Little Heavy
Other Comments: The electronic viewfinder is very sharp and the focus is fast. It took several photos at Laguna Seca racetrack and the pixs were superior to my Canon Rebel XS dslr. I loved not having to lug a zoom lens around and having to change lenses. The size is about that of a dslr. You can't go wrong with this camera. I received it in about one week. Great service from buydig.

5 out of 5 stars   Great Bridge Camera

Pros: Fast Auto Focus, Light Weight, Quick Boot-up, High power zoom, Ease of Use, Great Video
Cons: No bulb setting, Not quite a DSLR
Other Comments: I use the camera for portraits and sporting events. Can be used right out of the box with ease. Has many features beyond simple point and shoot. I considered a DSLR but everything's a trade off. A DSLR cannot meet the zoom, ease of use, and light weight of this camera at this price point. I wanted the convenience of not having to switch lens. I could not afford a DSLR lens with as much zoom as this camera has. I highly recommend this camera.
