Worth the Price

I am very happy with my purchase. The screen size is worth the price!
Large monitor for a good price.

I like the 27-inch real estate of this monitor. Its reflective coating gives a vibrancy to the colors that can't be matched with a matte finish. However, it is best used without bright lights or windows behind you as you sit at the monitor because they will reflect in the display. My display came with a couple of areas along the edge where light is bleeding through. You can clearly see it when the screen is dark and I am in a dark room. Not very good for watching movies or videos with dark scenes. The included "HP My Display" software (I downloaded the latest version from the HP website) is decent, but it has bugs. For one, you cannot get it to automatically load your custom preset at launch. I spent a significant amount of time going through the settings and adjusting it to my tastes. Then, I saved the preset. Now, when I boot the computer, it will only load the "Factory Default Preset". I have to go in every time I start the computer and manually load my preset. Not a major problem, but an irritation HP could easily solve.I have played Star Trek Online and Battlefield 3 using this monitor. This display looked great with both games. I saw no ghosting or other artifacts during game play. This is a good quality monitor for a decent price. Despite the cons, I would still recommend this monitor for everyday use and gaming.

I used this monitor in my home office. It is a great looking monitor for the price. Photos and videos are fantastic as is everyday internet browsing. It is also very attractive.

I use this monitor as an extended display for writing reports. My work space has soft light so the glossy finish is not a problem. There seems to be plenty of brightness adjustment for those who work near windows. I believe that this display is at least as good as any other in this price range.

Beautiful picture, right price

When I was in the market for a new monitor I was deciding between the HP 27xi and the Dell S2740L. I wanted a large (24"+) monitor with a glossy screen; basically a needle in a haystack. Spec for spec the monitors are nearly head-to-head, but what really pushed me to buy the HP (price notwithstanding) is the fact that so many reviews of the Dell S2740L complained about how one side of the screen was darker than the other. That kind of poor workmanship is unacceptable, especially from a name like Dell.I love my HP monitor. It's beautiful, and while glossy enough for my tastes (I was coming from a 26" iMac), it's not nearly as bothersome as people would have you believe. I prefer the image clarity in a glossy monitor, and since I use my computers primarily for gaming and graphic/web design, my screen is very important to me.I think for its price point, the HP 27xi is an excellent choice if you cannot afford higher end monitors. I highly recommend it. I docked 1 star for the plastic base; it's sturdy, but a little chintzy. And VESA mount compatibility would have been nice.
