I bought the NEX 6 after a lot of research, hoping to find a camera which would substitute for my DSLR and its selection of lenses. The NEX more than meets that requirement. Some reviews have claimed that the Sony NEX menu system is confusing and hard to use. I haven't fount that at all. I bought a book on the NEX 6, read through it a couple of times, and that made all the difference. Almost everything one needs is easy to access with a button push or two. The NEX 6 handles higher ISOs, up through 1600, surprisingly well - better than my Canon 50D DSLR. Image quality is so good that I find myself revising my own objectives about what is possible in photography.

EVF is useful more than I thought. This is my first camera.I had a hard time to choose between Nex5R or Nex6.I want 5R with 16-50mm but that bundle not available before 23 Jan so I grabbed Nex6 16-50mm and free 16mm/f2.8 instead and never regret.

not indoor camera
By John Smith

I intended to use it as a family camera, mostly indoor. It is a bit pricy but I thought I would get a quality product for the money. I was deadly wrong. There are a few flows that make it useless in low light conditions.1. The auto mode is tuned to ISO 3200 and underexposed about 1ev. Even with APC-S sensor, ISO 3200 is noisy in low light. Underexposure makes it even worse, so picture that made in worm lighting of living room is not much better than picture that made by your cell phone. I know for low light I should have used fast lens, but if I can correct the problem by setting ISO to 1600 and increasing exposure by 1ev, why auto mode cannot do the same?2. Zooming in video mode is too noisy. In quiet room you cannot zooming during video recording. The worst thing is that no way to fix the issue by external microphone. The camera doesn't have a mic input socket.3. Phase detection autofocus that should do a perfect job in low light condition is just a joke. It is extremely inaccurate. It seems like Sony released a raw product. So I wouldn't recommend buying it at least before the first upgrade.
