Translucent Mirror Technology

Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. The SLT-A57, with Translucent Mirror Technology?, directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously.

Up to 12 fps Tele-Zoom High Speed Shooting

By capturing the center 2/3 of the image sensor (8.4MP), Tele-zoom high speed shooting brings the action closer with a 1.4x effective increase of focal length. Shoot up to an incredible 12 frames per second with continuous auto focus and auto exposure to capture the decisive moment.

Up to 10 fps at 16.1MP capture

Shoot up to 10 frames per second in incredible detail with the 16.1 megapixel Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, the camera achieves high resolution with no penalty in low-light sensitivity or sensor noise.

Clear Image Zoom

Utilizing Sony?s exclusive By Pixel Super Resolution Technology, Clear Image Zoom increases the effective focal length of your lens up to 2x by digitally magnifying the center of your image with nearly imperceptible degradation. It virtually doubles the effective focal length of whatever lens you?re using providing greater shooting flexibility.

Auto Portrait Framing

Simply photograph a person and Auto Portrait Framing will save an additional, optimally framed image in portrait or landscape orientation. Combining Face Detection and By Pixel Super Resolution technologies with rule of thirds, Auto Portrait Framing provides beautifully composed and appealingly balanced full resolution portraits.

Full HD 1080/60p/24p movies

This is one of the very few DSLRs with super smooth 1080/60p/24p Full HD recording capability. Records in your choice of 1080/60p AVCHDformat or in PC-friendly 1080/30p MP4 format.

Eye-Level Electronic Viewfinder

The Tru-finderElectronic Viewfinder (EVF) is super bright, easy to see with 1.04x magnification, ultra-sharp with 1.44 million dots (effective) and provides 100% frame coverage. Exposure preview and informative overlays make operation easy.

Tilt/swivel 3 inch LCD screen

Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel under the camera for self-portraits. Fold it flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel.

Auto HDR built into camera

Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle?and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot. Captures in a split second. (Recommended for still subjects.)

SteadyShot INSIDEstabilization

Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. SteadyShot INSIDEimage stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A-mount lens because it provides compensation equivalent to approximately 2.5 ? 4.5 steps in shutter speed, allowing for more hand held opportunities in low light or longer focal lengths.

15-point Auto Focus

To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Three cross sensors maximize precision.

Object Tracking AF

Using the 15-point autofocus sensor and Sony?s subject recognition technologies, Object Tracking AF can maintain accurate focus on your subject even when it changes position in the frame.

Multi-frame NR

Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600. (Recommended for still subjects.)

Hand-held Twilight

Get cleaner and sharper nighttime pictures?beyond the capability of traditional cameras?without using flash or a tripod. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data with separate algorithms for still and moving parts of the picture reduces blur, minimizes noise and enables extraordinary detail.

Sweep PanoramaMode

Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter and sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together. Up to 23 MP image size.

3D Sweep Panorama Mode

Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television.3 Records both JPEG and MPO file formats.

Picture Effects

Ordinary scenes become extraordinary photos and movies with Picture Effects. Choose from 11 modes and 15 effects that significantly increase visual impact by adjusting camera parameters and applying advanced processing techniques.

4 out of 5 stars   Great fast camera
By Photo Chossid (Brooklyn, NY) May 29, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57K 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens Ultimate Bundle (E1SNSLTA57K)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Solid build quality, Speedy, Mic input, Continuos Live View, Fast shots
Cons:
Other Comments: If you need a fast interchangeable lens camera, this is for you. It snaps so fast it wow all who see you snapping tons of photos within seconds. Very easy menu system too. Another good thing is the specially assigned buttons for ISO, and white balance. To be honest, I haven't used all the features of this camera. But for fast shooting, and esp. candids this camera is great. I just wish they would have such quality in a compact or, even phone camera.... :) oh well. Other than not being a "pocket" camera, and average photo quality, this is an excellent camera. Oh, unlike traditional DSLR's where you must look in the viewfinder to frame your photo, and guess what it's going to look like, this Sony a57 has CONSTANT live view, plus you can see all changes you make in real time! i.e. shutter speed, aperture, etc. I've also read somewhere that this camera has the same sensor as the great nikon d7000 camera. Yet, the pictures (At least with my lenses) are not completely sharp as I would have want. Well anyway, i'm constantly looking for a camera that sees the way my eye sees (thank G-d). Overall: a great compact and very fast dslr (or dslt)

4 out of 5 stars   Happy with my sony purchase
By weyes (Illinois) May 02, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57K 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm , 75-300 Ultimate Bundle (E3SNSLTA57K)

Pros: Easy to get started, Extra battery
Cons:
Other Comments: After doing a bit of research online I went with the Sony. So far I've been very happy with the picture quality. The extra battery that came with the bundle has already come in handy. The camera case that came with the bundle isn't awesome, but it works. The telephoto lens has come in handy at kids soccer events. Uploading pictures is quick and easy.

5 out of 5 stars   Sony A57 camera review
By i_deal_man (Michigan) April 29, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57K 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm , 75-300 Ultimate Bundle (E3SNSLTA57K)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Iso range, Picture Quality, panoramic shots
Cons: Getting Used To Settings
Other Comments: Takes beautiful picutes, indoors and out. Lot of manually adjustable features. It takes a bit to get used to the settings (for example, my camera wouldnt stop focusing, even when I wasnt looking in the eye-piece; I then realized that it was because it was set to continuous auto-focus. I changed it to single shot auto focus and it is fine now), but once you figure out the settings, this is a very good camera. I havent experimented too much with the video, but whatever little I took looks promising.

5 out of 5 stars   Best entry level DSLR for the price
By Undergrounded (Maryland) April 23, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57K 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens (SNSLTA57K)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Panaromic And 3d Pics, Awesome picture quality, Large Apsc Sensor, cheap
Cons: Canon N Nikon R Jealous
Other Comments: I had to get a beginners DSLR for my wife for her photography coursework and after waiting a long time to get a good deal on Canon T4i while consistently comparing it against Sony A57 I finally decided to go with Sony A57. My wife has been telling me how jealous Canon and Nikon owners in her class were since this camera beat them for quality as well as price. Even her teacher who said upfront that he wasn't impressed with Sony admitted that this camera packs a punch that you can't find in other cameras. Sony has really worked on their DSLRs and have made cameras that can compete with Canon and Nikon in the entry level market. Getting this big of a sensor plus these features in a Canon/Nikon would cost you at least 1.5 to 2 times the price of A57. I wonder if this is such a great camera then how good would A65, A77 and A99 be. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars   A57, the best among the Entry level DSLR
By A57 lover (Chicago, IL) February 28, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57K 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-55mm , 55-200 Ultimate Bundle (E2SNSLTA57K)

Pros: Useful Built-in Filters, Great movie quality, Fast AF, Light and handy, Friendly Interface
Cons: none
Other Comments: The A57 itself is a really hero for entry DSLR user. Works well in low-light, fast auto focusing lets you capture the image fit to your need. Movie is a really great, the quality and the AF captures the image so fast. The AF noise is recorded in the movie, but not too bothersome for my need. you can put a external mic for that reason. I had the package deal, with bags, SD cards, cleaning kit & filters. Bags and filters are cheap, but okay for my use.

4 out of 5 stars   Love this camera!

Review submitted for Sony Alpha SLT-A57M 16.1 MP Digital SLR Kit w/ 18-135mm Lens (SNSLTA57M)

Pros: 10-12 Frames Per Second, Full HD video, Focus peaking, Ergonomics, Features, Large Viewfinder Image, Flip screen, Image Quality
Cons: No Interval Timer
Other Comments: I really like this camera a lot. Has most of the features I need and reliably captures great images in various situations. Image quality is excellent - especially in RAW mode. One of my few complaints is I have to wait longer than other cameras I have used before being able to zoom the preview image after capture. Overall though this is one of the better cameras I have used. I even like the evf. The image is larger than most optical viewfinders and very clear.

5 out of 5 stars   Great camera, feature-rich

Pros: Great Pictures, Feature rich, No Moving Mirror
Cons:
Other Comments: Our first SLT/DSLR camera. A big step-up from the nice point and shoots I am used to - like the canon s100. You simply can't beat the amount of light an APS-C sensor will capture when you are coming from a typical point and shoot. We purchased to get better quality low-light plus motion pictures inside. This camera delivered out of the box great pictures on auto mode. The translucent lens is a great feature and I don't think I'd want a true DSLR after using the a57. That feature allows the camera to blend the best of a point and shoot with the full capabilities of a DSLR - you can see the images in the preview LCD like a point and shoot, but also have the full range of configurations should you want to play with the shutter, exposure, etc. I found the controls easy to use with only minutes to get acclimated. We will continue to learn better photography practices with this camera, but rest assured, the auto mode(s) produce excellent results most of the time for anyone that is on the fence when deciding whether to jump from point and shoot to a more professional camera.
