Good backup, not the fastest.
About Me Casual User
Not the fastest drive on the planet but it is a Raid and it's good for archiving. Good backup.
from Evansville, IN
I am using the product to back up my home computer network. My Wife is an avid photographer and we have thousands of digital photo files.
Continuous backup for networks only
from Portland, OR
It is used as a continuous backup for three computers on a network. It is slow because it verifies all data so it has taken an entire week to copy backup data from my computers to this drive. Otherwise, it works in the background and is a carefree installation. It has no USB or Firewire connections so it can only be used on a network.
Great NAS Data Storage; Slow Data Server
from Silver Spring, MD
This is a great unit for redundant, networked storage of all your data. It's a mediocre media server due to the slow data access times (even when not over wireless, such as Drive->Router->Wired PS3), but I bought it as a storage and distribution device, not to directly serve video.
Not Ready for Windows 7 64-bit
Patches upon patches to get the drive to work with W7/64-bit. Technical support comes in dribs and drabs. Rtn'd item and got a Seagate from [@]. Plugged it in and it immediately worked.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Nice Storage Solution
from Cary, IL
Replaced a 11 year old server with this. 1/20 the size, 8 times more storage space and less than a tenth of what I paid for the server 11 years ago.
Does what I wanted it to do.
from Rocky Hill, CT
Product was easy to setup and is easy to use. Needed to setup static IP address in order for WD Discovery to find and latch onto it reliably. Directories are easy to share and with an additional USB WD My Book, I have a total of 6TB of which 4TB are available.
