I've never put a lens on ANY SLR or DSLR camera without at least a basic UV filter. For general outdoor shooting I know I'll always get good shots and my lens will be protected from scratches, etc. I'm not a pro photographer so I don't need to buy filters in the three digit price range. This multi-coated filter has not negatively altered my shots and I am quite pleased with it.
