28mm Wide Lens with 5X Optical Zoom. Intelligent Auto with Mega OIS automatically adjusts to ensure great photos under any condition. High Speed AF - Quickly focus in on the action

28mm Wide-angle 5x Optical Zoom Lens with f/2.8 Brightness

The DMC-FH1 features a newly developed 28mm wide-angle* 5x optical zoom f/2.8-6.9 LUMIX DC VARIO lens (35mm camera equivalent: 28-140mm) into a compact body. Comprising 6 elements in 5 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit realizes the outstandingly slim and compact body yet achieving exceptional optical performance

The 28mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances. * Converted to standard 35mm camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.

The DMC-FH1 has a 5x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 28-140mm) and 9.8x Extra Optical Zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 274mm)*1. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 39.2x.
*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the DMC-FH1, image resolution is kept at its maximum size to the optical tele-end even if the Extra Optical Zoom is ON.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) Shake Detection

The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)* in the DMC-FH1 compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. The Venus Engine IV controls the shifting of the blur-stopping lens with even greater precision to further increase the detection accuracy and correction effect of MEGA O.I.S. It works for zoom shots and macro shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake, and lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination to preserve the mood. In short, it lets anybody take beautiful, blur-free shots with ease. * MEGA O.I.S. is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in Normal Picture Mode or some Scene Modes.

Sonic Speed AF

The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FH1 (has a maximum speed of approx. 0.35 second for auto focusing*. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.

Extended Battery Life

The energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FH1. This lets users take approx. 310 shots on a single battery charge*. * Based on the CIPA standard.

5 out of 5 stars   Great first compact digital camera
By The college student (PA) May 18, 2011
Review submitted for Panasonic DMC-FH1A LUMIX 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera (Blue) (PNDMCFH1A)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact, Good in Low Light, Easy To Use, Nice Body Color, Great Zoom, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Short Lag Time, Good Image Quality
Cons: Poor Image Stabilization
Other Comments: This is my first digital camera, and it was an excellent choice for the price range I was looking for. There's basically no lag time between pictures, which is the one feature that I was hoping for. It has a nice auto focus setting, and I like all the different options for scene selections. The con is only there because if you're not deliberate, the pictures can come out just slightly blurry. So make sure you take the time and keep your hands still when taking the picture.

4 out of 5 stars   Panasonic DMC-FH1 Camera

Pros: Fast/accurate auto-focus, Small / Compact, Nice Body Color, Easy To Use, Large Clear LCD, Short Lag Time
Cons: No Viewfinder, Poor Image Quality
Other Comments: I use this camera to take pictures around school and it works just fine. One of its biggest pros in my opinion is its ability to turn on and off with hardly any lag. My old camera used to take about 5-7 seconds to start up and shut itself down. A con to this camera is its picture quality. The pictures look good normally, but when you try to zoom in, they get blurry quickly. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the more MP your camera had, the farther you could zoom into the photos and still see sharp details. My old camera was only 6.2MP yet when I zoomed in, I could see everything clearly.

4 out of 5 stars   nice camera at right price

Pros: Short Lag Time, Great Zoom, Nice Body Color, Good in Low Light
Cons:
Other Comments: the camera is awesome. however i wished i had gotten the 14mp/8x opticle zoom, but it was about +$30, I was on a budget. The only dislike about this cam. is when viewing the screen to take a pic. the movement is choppy it's kind of hard taking "movement" pictures. It lags a little so you kind of have to guess when to take the pic. at the right time, but rest assure the image comes out clear. I tried a casio before this with the same specs with 4x zoom, it was nice too but i'm more satisfied with this model. Highly recommend! espeacially through beach camera! it was the best $$$$ BY FAR! Thanks Beach Camera!
