Introducing the New Z Mount Lenses


Nikon has developed two new innovative Nikon Z mount lenses for the Nikon Z Camera series. These Z system lenses have been designed and are scheduled to be released in March. Both lenses will be compatible with the Nikon Z series cameras and fall into the Nikon Z lens roadmap from the mid-level Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8S to the higher-end Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S. mirrorless lens. These lenses offer amazing
functionality and we would highly recommend them.

Both lenses are powered by an incredible dual STM motor which saves space and produces amazing image quality for outstanding performance.

Both lenses according to Nikon have weather sealing for dust and drips, providing a nice reassurance to users of these z-mount lenses.

Nikon has developed the high end Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2S which is a mid-telephoto full frame prime lens which is speedy fast. This lens is compatible with Nikon Z mirrorless cameras such as the Nikon Z6, Z6II, Z7II and the Nikon Z9 as well as other mirrorless cameras manufacturers like Panasonic etc.

In addition, mid-level Nikkor Z 26mm F/2.8 which is a pancake slim wide angle prime lens. Both new lenses are compatible with the Nikon Z Mount system. These lenses can be compatible with an F Mount system typically found on Nikon DSLR cameras, as well as other manufacturers, with an FTZ adapter. A teleconverter can even be attached to increase the zoom lens capability. So these amazing lenses can be used on a Canon RF camera for example.

The Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8 is the lightest of all the Z series lenses weighing in at approximately 4.5 oz. This z-mount camera is made for portability and is extremely easy to travel with. This lens is perfect for Nikon cameras aps-c cameras.

The Nikkor Z 85mm lens is the ideal lens for portrait focal length. It is a Z-mount lens that is the largest diameter full frame mount. Z-mount lenses from Nikon offer an alternative to f-mount lenses such as Canon RF mount cameras by being 1mm larger and a shorter flange distance. Z-mount lenses from Nikon are wider than the Nikon F-mount lenses by approximately 17% allowing for light to hit the sensor. It can easily be attached to a mirrorless camera. This lens focuses more on high quality than lightweight portability as the Nikkor Z 26mm does.

Design

The Nikon Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8 lens is an FX format camera not a DX lens. The FX format provides higher image quality, color accuracy, and performance in low light conditions than the DX format. The format of a DX lens format is lighter, more compact, and more affordable.

NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 Z-Mount Prime Lens

This is a 26mm focal length which produces an virtual smart-phone style angle of view of 79 degrees. You can also place the Nikon Z 26mm F2.8 onto one of Nikon’s APS-C Z-Mount cameras, such as the Nikon Z50 or ZfC, and enjoy an angle of view of 57 degrees which is likened to that of a 40mm lens on a full-frame camera. This lens makes for great street view taking of stills and video. Perfect for the burgeoning photographer. When attached to an APS-C camera size/DX-format camera like Z 30, Z 50 or Z fc, the field of view is closer to 39mm. This lens can also be mounted on certain Fujifilm cameras as they mostly focus on producing high-quality APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Additional Features

When shooting video, the Nikkor Z 26mm lens offers focus breathing also known as lens breathing is minimized. Focus breathing allows the lenses focal length to change quietly on both as it can magnify images at different focusing distances. Both zoom, portrait lenses and prime lenses can perform this to different extents.

The Nikkor Z 26mm F2.8 features a mid level brightness allowing your camera’s sensor to gather almost twice as much incoming light as the average lens set to a similar focal length.

The autofocus is very quiet especially when paired with a Nikon Z FC camera

Nikon Z Mount compatible with many camera and lens manufacturers including Canon, Sigma, Sony and Tamron. It is not compatible with F mount. (Please consult your user manual for your specific model to ensure compatibility). Nikon Z Mount lenses are compatible with an F Mount system typically found on Nikon DSLR cameras, as well as other manufacturers, with an FTZ adapter. A teleconverter can even be attached to increase the zoom lens capability. Nikon’s Z Mount technology has many of the same style features as the Canon RF mount, but it does not have backwards capability to be used with an e-mount like the the Canon RF mount.

The included lens hood's design protects the front element creating a form of weather sealed protection against dust and drips according to Nikon.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm Lens

Design

The Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2S is an FX format full frame lens with telephoto zoom which is compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras. The Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S is the second 85mm for the system. It high-end features and being a part of the S-Line series sets this lens apart from others. It is built with a accurate autofocus and speedy dual STM motors. This is an extremely fast mid-telephoto lens. This lens may just let Nikon give Leica a run for it’s money on comparable lenses.

The optical construction of the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 lens is similar and sits right below the high-end Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 Noct lens. Noct is a Nikon lens term on their lenses which are meant to to be shot wide open. 85mm is an Ideal Portrait Focal Length comfortable working distance and light telephoto compression and obtaining true expression in you shooting.

The Maximum Angle of View on the Nikkor Z 85mm lens is 28°30 when shot in FX format.

Two Aspherical Elements (lens elements), for sharpness, with small spherical aberration and field curvature are present in the design of the camera.

The approximate dimensions of the lens is  4.1 in. (102.5 mm)  x  5.6 in. (141.5 mm) Distance to end of lens from camera lens mount flange. The lens weighs in at 41 oz.

The F1.2 aperture gathers twice the light as an f/1.8 lens, for razor-thin depth of field. For video use, focus breathing also known as lens breathing is minimized. Focus breathing allows the lenses focal length to change quietly on both as it can magnify images at different focusing distances. Both zoom, portrait lenses and prime lenses can perform this to different extents. With Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat imbedded in the lens, Nikon says this will suppress ghosting and flare. It adapts extremely well to low light situations and is perfect for mirrorless cameras. The Nikkor Z 85mm also produces a tremendous Bokeh effect.

Firmly placed in the Nikon lens premier S-Line, NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S aperture has the most superb optics, advanced stills and video recording features while offering premium weather sealing.

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Two aspherical elements lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations. They are extremely useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses.

FX-format lens (newer than the DX lens format) provide higher image quality, crisp and vibrant color accuracy, and exceptional performance in low light conditions

A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing of the full frame camera. The NIKKOR Z 85mm lens does not change in size during autofocus operation. This allows for a compact, lightweight lens capable of closer minimum focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel. Additional Lenses in the Nikon Z series

These lenses sit in the Nikon lens roadmap. That series also offers a 14-24mm f/2.8 AF-S is an ultra-ultra wide zoom lens, the 14-30mm f is magnificent ultra-ultrawide lens for Nikon’s full frame mirrorless system. The AF-S (superior series line from Nikkor NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G boasts fast wide angle to medium telephoto zoom ability. It is optimized for both the FX format and the DX format. The AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED zoom lens and the 70-200mm f lens.

Availability

Both the Nikkor Z 26mm and the Nikkor Z 85mm are available for purchase in March.
