Infrared Beam System
When you need to be more discreet, using the infrared beam can ensure sharp focus by emitting a steady infrared beam toward the subject, even during bounce shooting.
Intermittent Flash
The Speedlite 470EX-AI emits a small series of flashes. Since illumination reaches the entire picture area, this AF-assist beam mode is effective when a peripheral AF frame is chosen.
Flash Exposure Adjustment Range
To help you change the balance of light between subject and background to your liking, the Speedlite 470EX-AI's exposure is adjustable within a range of +-3 stops in 1/3 or 1/2 step increments. A dedicated dial makes it fast and easy to make these adjustments on the fly.
Flash Angle Range
The Speedlite 470EX-AI has a flexible and wide bounce angle range of up to 120 deg upward and 180 deg horizontally. With AI Bounce, angles within this range can be maintained regardless of camera orientation.
Wireless Receiver Function
Off-camera flash is quick and easy with the Speedlite 470EX-AI, which can serve as a receiver unit as part of an optical wireless flash setup at distances of up to 49.2 ft./15m (indoors). With wireless flash, ambitious lighting setups can be created almost anywhere, without the need for extra power sources or connecting cables.

Ideal for providing diffused soft light, the Speedlite 470EX-AI's Bounce Adapter SBA-E4 helps ensure even more natural-looking, detailed images with suppressed shadow effects. Bundled with the Speedlite 470EX-AI, the Bounce Adapter SBA-E4 can be an indispensable tool for portraits and group photographs.
Distribute Light to All Corners with the Wide Panel
The Speedlite 470EX-AI's wide panel expands coverage even further. Especially suitable for use with an ultra-wide angle lens, this wide panel provides diffused light distribution for focal lengths as wide as 14mm (with 35mm full-frame sensor), minimizing vignetting even in the corners of the composition.
