The exclusive Olympus FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System focuses at an astonishing speed and offers 37 AF targets located in the on-chip phase detection AF method, which enables automatic selection when a Four Thirds lens is attached. When a lens is attached that is Micro Four Thirds, the Contrast AF method is automatically selected. In contrast, AF points have been expanded from 35 to 81. Out of these 81 points, 37 of them are in the same position as Phase Detection AF. In addition to Small Target and Group Target, Super Spot AF can be selected, enabling selection of an even smaller AF point area.
The heart of the OM-D E-M1 is the TruePic VII image processor designed for maximum performance and function speed. It uses information communicated from the lens (such as aperture value and lens optical characteristics) to optimize the image. Fine Detail II technology corrects for chromatic aberration individually for each Zuiko Digital lens and applies the right amount of sharpening.
The OM-D E-M1 has a 1/8000 second high-speed mechanical shutter, allowing you to freeze quick-moving action without blurring. Use prime lenses at their maximum aperture to capture beautifully defocused background images in bright daylight. Take high-speed sequential shots as fast as 10fps with the Tracking AF (C-AF+Tr), which works in tandem with the Autofocus to follow your subject. High-speed sequential shooting is available with a maximum frame when using autofocus tracking of 6.5fps, approximately 504 shots in RAW (continuous shooting time of approximately 9 seconds). At S-AF sequential shooting, a max high- speed sequential shooting frame rate of 10fps, and approximately 41 shots in RAW, is available.

The OM-D E-M1 leaves nothing to the imagination (except for yours). A Color Creator feature lets you adjust Hue and Chroma right in the EVF and preview the effect in "real time". Color manipulation that was difficult to imagine is now possible, enabling you to capture shots that perfectly match your imagination. HDR Preview emulates the HDR effect in the EVF before the camera processes the image.

The OM-D E-M1 is equipped with a 5-Axis Image Stabilization System with IS-Auto. 5-Axis IS compensates for vertical, horizontal and rotational camera shake that conventional 2-axis systems could not. The IS-Auto mode detects both vertical and horizontal panning and automatically deactivates image stabilization on the panning axis, so you can take spectacular panning photos of objects such as a speeding car. 5-Axis IS is built into the camera body to ensure stabilization with all lenses.
