Photography Project Ideas to Jumpstart Your Creativity

Let’s face it, there’s only so many pictures we can take of our kids, pets, house and garden before we start itching to shoot something else… but what? Tackling a photography project is not only a great way to improve your photography skills but it can keep you from feeling like you take the same photo every day. Plus, having a project for yourself is a fun way to capture images just for you. Here are some project ideas to get you on your way. Go Mono Take one month and do all your photos in black-and-white.  Not only will you get better at converting photos to black and white, but you’ll also start to see things differently. You will begin to figure out what photos would look better in mono, and which ones wouldn’t. Pick-A-Something Pick something and try to get a collection of photos representing it. For instance, pick a color and try to go all day photographing only things that are that color. Or try only getting pictures of things that are square when you’re on a walk.  Choose a Subject If you have children, you may notice they are in 95% of your photos. Focus on a new subject to try new compositions and break out of your normal photography routine. Subject ideas to try might include, shoes, flags, windows, a color, lines, doors, or chairs. ABC Project There are two ways you can tackle this project. You can choose a letter and photograph things that start with that letter. Another option is to photograph something that looks like the letter. This option is fun if you want to create a collage of photos to spell out a name. Grateful Project Choose to photograph things, people or places you are grateful for. Not only will you never run out of ideas for things to photograph with your camera from Beachcamera.com, but it helps you focus on what is really important. A Day in the Life You can do this oncea year, but you could really do this once a month or more. Photograph your day all day. You can either take photos throughout the day or just on the hour. Either way it’s a fun way to capture the everyday moments and routines that we often forget to capture. Birthday Week/Month Whether it’s your child’s birthday month, or another loved one, photograph them every day for the week or month of their birthday. It’s a fun way to document their year as well as capture what they are like at that age. Focus on One Lens If you have multiple lenses from Beachcamera.com, choose one you don’t normally use. Stick that one on your camera for a week, a month or a whole year. This will help push your creativity. Don’t assume a certain lens is only for one type of photo. Self Portraits Photographers are not in enough photos. Choose either to do a self-portrait, daily, weekly, or monthly. What is important is that you are getting in the photo. Try doing a “Monday Me” where each Monday you take a self-portrait. It’s a good idea to have a specific day in mind. If you’re going to do it monthly, choose the date of your birthday and each month take a photo on that date. This list of projects will help inspire you to find something creative to shoot.
