The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds in Desert Gold are premium open-ear wireless earbuds designed for people who want high-quality audio without blocking out the world around them. Using Bose OpenAudio technology, the earbuds direct sound toward the ears while leaving the ear canals completely open, allowing music, podcasts, and calls to blend naturally with surrounding sounds. The clip-on design, Bose Immersive Audio, Bluetooth multipoint, IPX4 water resistance, adjustable EQ, built-in microphones, and all-day battery system make them particularly well suited to commuting, office use, walking, running, travel, and extended everyday wear.

Unlike conventional earbuds, the Ultra Open Earbuds do not sit inside the ear canal. Bose's distinctive cuff-shaped design gently wraps around the side of the ear using a flexible joint called the Flex arm. The speaker portion rests near the ear opening while the battery barrel sits behind the ear, distributing weight across both sides for a secure yet lightweight fit.

Bose OpenAudio technology is engineered to deliver rich, detailed sound directly toward the listener while minimizing how much audio escapes into the surrounding environment. Because the ear canal remains uncovered, users can naturally hear conversations, traffic, announcements, coworkers, and other environmental sounds without activating a separate transparency mode.

The Ultra Open Earbuds also support Bose Immersive Audio, which spatializes conventional stereo recordings to create a broader, more externalized soundstage. Rather than making music feel confined inside the listener's head, Immersive Audio is designed to position the presentation farther out in front and around the listener.

There is no active noise cancellation, which is intentional. The Ultra Open Earbuds are designed around awareness rather than isolation. They are a fundamentally different product from Bose QuietComfort earbuds, making them better suited to environments where being able to hear what is happening around you is important.

Battery life reaches up to approximately 7 hours of continuous playback, while Bose rates standby time at up to 48 hours when connected but not actively playing audio. This distinction is important because the "48 hours" associated with the product refers to standby operation, not 48 hours of continuous music playback.

The included charging case provides approximately 19.5 additional hours of playback with Immersive Audio disabled, bringing total usable listening time across multiple recharges to roughly 26 hours. When Immersive Audio is active, battery consumption is higher.

A 10-minute quick charge provides up to approximately 2 hours of playback, making the earbuds easy to top up during a short break. The charging case recharges through USB-C.

Bluetooth multipoint allows the Ultra Open Earbuds to maintain connections with two compatible devices simultaneously, making them especially practical for switching between a laptop and smartphone throughout the day.

The earbuds include built-in microphones for calls, while physical button controls provide dependable operation without relying exclusively on touch-sensitive surfaces. Playback, calls, volume, and listening functions can be controlled directly from the earbuds.

An IPX4 rating protects the earbuds against sweat and splashing water, making them suitable for workouts, walking, light rain, and everyday active use. The charging case has more limited water protection and should be kept relatively dry.
