The SoundLink Max uses Bose’s multi-driver acoustic architecture to produce a much larger presentation than its compact enclosure suggests. The cabinet is also designed to tolerate everyday bumps and bruising associated with portable use. Battery life reaches up to 20 hours under Bose’s published test conditions, providing enough power for an entire day of music without returning to a charger. The USB-C connection serves two purposes. It recharges the SoundLink Max and can also charge a connected mobile device from the speaker’s internal battery, helping keep a phone alive during long outings. A built-in 3.5mm AUX input gives the Max an important advantage over many modern Bluetooth speakers. Turntables with appropriate line-level output, computers, older music players, DJ equipment, and other analog sources can connect directly without relying on Bluetooth.

Wireless connectivity uses Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC and AAC support for broad compatibility. On compatible Android hardware, the SoundLink Max also supports Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, which dynamically adjusts wireless audio quality and can operate at near-lossless quality under suitable conditions.
