The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) in Desert Gold are Bose’s premium true-wireless noise-cancelling earbuds, combining enhanced adaptive ANC, CustomTune personalized audio, Bose Immersive Audio, improved call quality, Bluetooth multipoint, Snapdragon Sound with aptX Adaptive, wireless case charging, and a secure customizable fit. The Desert Gold edition pairs a glossy black body with metallic gold exterior accents, giving the flagship earbuds a more distinctive appearance while retaining the same acoustic and wireless platform as the other 2nd Gen colors. The centerpiece is Bose’s updated active noise cancellation. Bose positions the 2nd Gen Ultra as its highest-performing in-ear noise-cancelling system, with enhanced adaptive processing designed to react more smoothly to changing environments. Quiet Mode maximizes isolation, while Aware Mode lets environmental sound through. Updated ActiveSense processing works in Aware Mode to reduce sudden spikes in outside noise so abrupt sounds are less intrusive.

Bose’s CustomTune Technology automatically personalizes both sound and noise cancellation to the listener’s ears. Each time the earbuds are inserted, the system analyzes the acoustic characteristics of the ear canal and adjusts playback and ANC accordingly, creating a more individualized listening profile without requiring manual calibration.

Bose Immersive Audio expands conventional stereo beyond the physical position of the earbuds, creating a broader spatial presentation intended to make music and movies feel less confined inside the listener’s head. Bose offers Immersive Audio as a dedicated listening option alongside Quiet and Aware modes. Battery life is rated at up to 6 hours with Immersive Audio off and approximately 4 hours with Immersive Audio active.

Call performance is another major focus of the second generation. Each earbud contains four microphones, for eight microphones across the pair. Bose combines the microphone array with noise-rejecting processing and AI-based background-noise suppression to isolate the user’s voice from surrounding sound and wind during calls. Either both earbuds or a single earbud can be used for calling.

Bluetooth 5.3 provides wireless connectivity with a range of up to approximately 30 feet / 9 meters. The earbuds support Bluetooth multipoint, allowing two compatible devices to remain connected for easier switching between a laptop, smartphone, or other sources. Bose also supports Snapdragon Sound and aptX Adaptive, including adaptive higher-resolution operation and a low-latency mode on compatible devices.

Battery life reaches up to 6 hours per earbud charge with Immersive Audio disabled. Bose specifies approximately 18 additional hours from a fully charged case, producing roughly 24 hours of combined listening under its standard test conditions. A full earbud recharge takes about two hours, while a 20-minute quick charge provides up to approximately two hours of listening.

The 2nd Gen charging case adds wireless charging, eliminating the need to connect a cable every time the case needs power. Wired charging remains available through USB-C. Bose specifies approximately three hours for a full case charge.

Fit is customizable through Bose’s Fit Kit. Three silicone eartip sizes and three stability-band sizes can be mixed to create nine possible combinations, allowing users to independently tune the acoustic seal and physical stability. The umbrella-shaped eartips help seal the ear canal for stronger bass and ANC, while the stability bands grip the contours of the outer ear to help keep the earbuds secure.

An IPX4 rating protects the earbuds against sweat and splashing water, making them suitable for workouts, commuting, and light rain. The charging case itself is not water resistant, and neither the earbuds nor case should be submerged.
